Love my car

My dad got this 1994 Nissan Altima for me when I was 16. That was 7 years ago. Since then, I haven't had too many problems with it, and the ones that I had weren't that expensive. Spark plugs, water pump, catalytic converter to get it to pass emmissions, but that's it. Good ride, good gas mileage, nice interior. I would strongly suggest this car.
Favorite Features
gas mileage, big trunk, lots of room inside
Suggested Improvements
boring exterior design, small mechanical problems

Have 145,000 miles now, still getting at least 28 mpg at best 32 mpg. Brake rotors finally gave out at 143,500. No major problems or concerns ever! Still flies through emissions tests every year. Not looking to get new yet, but will go Nissan again, and again...
Favorite Features
Peppy 4 cylinder that gets great milage.
Suggested Improvements
I think Nissan has taken care of them with the new Altima!

Solid, reliable and fun to drive.

I bought my Altima with 79,000 miles on it in 2000. She has never given me any problems whatsoever. These cars were built solid and maintain great value over the years. My only complaint is about the hubcaps which fall off easily and often. The alloy wheels would have been the move!

GREAT FIRST CAR
Vehicle
1994 Nissan Altima 4 Dr GXE Sedan
Review
I bought the car for $1500 with 170,000 miles a year ago. I put 20,000 on it, still runs great. At almost 200,000 miles I still trust it on 300mile+ trips. Its so dependable. I pimped my Nissan Altima with chrome wheels (not over the top, similar to ones offered on late model factory Altimas), and a PolkMOMO sound system. I tore out the rear deck and put new cloth on it so I could display the PolkMOMO speakers, looks AWESOME. I have PolkMOMO decals on windshield and rear window. The interior is AMAZING for 94 model. Good looking dash. The seats suck- After driving more than a few hours on long trips my back hurts. All the upholstry cleans really easily.
Favorite Features
The car is your run of the mill car as far as features go. What strikes me are the looks. For a 94 model, the interior is really nice. I like the fake wood grain. Fake wood is where its at. Easy handling. People mistake the car for a 2000 model. Paint is oxidized but Zymol fixes that.
Suggested Improvements
The only problem is the starter. If your starter goes, buy a NEW one at a Nissan Dealer!!! I can't stress that enough. I had to replace the starter 3 times because I kept buying salvage starters. Save for a new one and push start it (if you have the manual model).

Reliable but boring

I've had almost no problems with this car beyond the normal maintenance. it's now 11 years old with about 165,000 miles. Oil's leaking from almost all parts of the engine, but no other problems! The most expensive thing I've had to replace that wasnt normal maintenance was the wiper motor. I get about 28 mpg highway. Legs and back are normally uncomfortable after about an hr in it. Power/lighter placement is bad-- right under the cupholder, so your cup ends up resting on whatever you've got plugged in. Trunk opening is weirdly shaped, so sometimes what there's room for inside wont fit through the opening. Styling I think is ugly, but YMMV.
Favorite Features
reliability and gas mileage.
Suggested Improvements
bad lighter placement, trunk opening shape, and styling. (fixed now with new models).

This thing runs and runs and runs. All you have to do is keep up the general maintanence and this car is great. The exterior clear coat has disappeared. The appearance suffers, but the paint prevents rust. It just looks oxidized. Wax does not help. Car keeps up with traffic for 4cyl. Not great for 2 lane roads though. Fabric and interior have good resistance to spills. Good ride for short commutes, but not really a traveling car if you have the choice. Again though, this car represents good value in its class. I am upgrading to an Infinti I35 to stay in the Nissan family. I've had good sucess with these cars.
Favorite Features
Reliability +, very peppy engine for its class. Good, reactive transmission. Wide wheels/tires.
Suggested Improvements
Better quality control on exterior paint jobs, bigger trunk pass-thru. Quieter cabin on Hwy. I would think some improvements have been done when redesigned.

I'm finally looking to trade-in this car, but only because I want a new car for graduation to start off fresh. It's been very reliable- I got it with 58000 miles on it, had to replace the brakes once or twice, new rotors, some other minor repairs- nothing out of the ordinary. It is fun to drive and extremely easy to park and zip through traffic. I added a spoiler and racing wheels and it looks very nice. The Bose standard speakers are a nice touch. For a 11 year old car, it's pretty decent.
Favorite Features
Easy handling...interior comfort and design... looks new- people always think its a 2000 or a 2001
Suggested Improvements
improved body paint quality- rusts a little too easy
Fun to drive but engine stall problem
Vehicle

Review
Almost had serious accident caused by my 94 Altima engine distributor problem in Nov. 2002. The 94 Nissan Altima has high failure rate of its engine distributor. If your car is among those, the distributor could cause the engine to stall ALL of sudden when you are driving. The immediate results will be, the power steering stops working, the foot brake stops working. I had to pull the hand break HARD to avoid a car accident. After spent $550 to replace a new distributor. The car has been running good.
Favorite Features
Good Acceleration. Fun to drive.
Suggested Improvements
1) Often wipe and clean the distributor area, because the 94 Altima distributor could have engine oil leak into the distributor to disable the computer chip inside. 2) If the engine starts to have light chocking, check the car ASAP. Mention the distributor issue to the mechanics.
