Widely known for its decadent chocolates, impenetrable banks and a penchant
for sitting on the sidelines when war breaks out, Switzerland is also home to
the annual Geneva Motor Show, a multinational gathering of all things
automotive. With participation from car builders big and small, Geneva has a
more diverse look and feel than the annual shows in Detroit and Frankfurt. So
whether you're interested in European minicars, Japanese concepts or good ol'
American performance, there's always a little bit of something for everybody
in Geneva.
This year's show had plenty of interesting new models led by a strong
contingent of German entries. Mercedes-Benz led the way with its fully
redesigned SLK roadster, a refreshed C-Class sedan and the final production
version of its sleek CLS "coupe". BMW unveiled an M5 "concept" and a new 5
Series wagon while its Mini subsidiary showed off a drop-top version of its
wildly popular Cooper coupe. Rounding out the deluge of German product was an
all-new A6 sedan from Audi and the Concept C from Volkswagen.
Chrysler also grabbed some unexpected attention with its new high-performance
Crossfire SRT-6, while Chevrolet unveiled the latest Corvette convertible. New
concepts from Mazda, Rolls Royce and Toyota were crowd pleasers as well. Keep
