What's Special About It?
I knew it! I have loved full-size wagons for years. My fantasy, money-is-no-object, end-all car collection includes a Buick Roadmaster wagon — the one with the 5.7-liter V8. Finally my prediction has come true with the advent of the new Dodge Magnum. Nothing less than a V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive, full-size station wagon, the Magnum is just about the most fabulous muscle car to come along since the Viper. I'd love to have a Viper, or a Corvette, or a Ram SRT-10 but where will my kid ride? Or what if I want to take my wife out and she wants to bring her purse? Those cars are fun but only practical for the ultrarich or the consummate bachelor. I'll take the Hemi-powered wagon, oops, I mean "sport tourer." For some reason U.S. automakers still think "wagon" has a negative connotation.
The base price for a V8-powered Magnum is just a hair under $30,000 but those on a tighter budget can get a V6 model for less than $25,000. Stability assist is an option as is BrakeAssist, traction control, navigation system, heated leather seats, Sirius radio and a Boston Acoustics sound system.
The Hemi version is good for 340 horsepower. Two V6s are offered, a 3.5-liter and a 2.7-liter. The 3.5 is good for 250 hp while the 2.7 makes 190 hp.
