Mitsubishi Sport Truck

What Is It?

Mitsubishi Sport Truck Concept

What's Special About It?

This tough-looking concept truck combines Mitsubishi's eccentric brand of styling with a pickup body style that's anything but your average worksite hauler. Look closely and Mitsubishi's corporate design philosophy is evident, but for the most part, this concept defines its own intentions with oversize fenders, 22-inch wheels and wraparound glass. A fully independent suspension supports the big truck while a full-time all-wheel-drive system and V8 engine provide the power. Trick features like a multifunctional tailgate that can fully retract underneath the cargo bed and see-through mirror housings add that extra element of innovation that you won't find on any production trucks.

The interior continues the forward-thinking design with wide clamshell doors, a floating instrument panel and reconfigurable rear seats. In what is perhaps this truck's most innovative design feature, the rear seats can be slid back into the cargo bed to give backseat passengers a driving experience not unlike a convertible. An adjustable LED lighting system allows for an infinitely adjustable color scheme that can be tailored to suit varying moods, and reconfigurable LCD displays in the dashboard provide the same level of flexibility for the vehicle's various gauges and control systems.

What's Edmunds' Take?

Although Mitsubishi has announced that it will bring a Dakota-based truck to market soon, don't expect it to look much like this concept. As impressive as it looked on stage, its over-the-top styling isn't something that will translate easily to the constraints of platform engineering. — Ed Hellwig
