What Is It?
Honda SUT Concept
What's Special About It?
It's a Honda and it's a truck. We think that's pretty special in itself. Billed as a vehicle for "cool dads," the SUT is perfect for a small family with an active outdoor lifestyle. The five-foot cargo bed has integrated lighting and cargo tie-downs while the interior offers seating for five.
It may seem odd that Honda is building a truck, but it has sold over half a million light SUVs and minivans in recent years. Actually, calling the SUT a truck may be a bit misleading as the SUT Concept has a unibody construction. Based on the closest thing Honda has to a bona fide truck, the Pilot (itself based on the Odyssey minivan), the SUT's carlike construction should give it a decidedly untrucklike ride quality. Frankly, that's just perfect for a family car.
Since the SUT will double as a family car for most buyers, safety is a key ingredient in the SUT. There's an electronic four-wheel-drive system, Vehicle Stability Assist, side curtain airbags and rollover sensors. Four-wheel ABS will be standard. Power will come from Honda's VTEC-enhanced V6.
While the SUT pictured here is merely a concept, Honda says it will build this vehicle and that the production version will look much like this concept.
What's Edmunds' Take?
It seems like anything Honda makes is a runaway success, we're sure a Honda light-duty pickup will not be any different. Brian Moody
