- More than the sum of its parts, the XF manages to strike a fine balance among luxury and dynamics. Lots of value for the money, too.

8.0 / 10 Engine Performance- Smooth power delivery that is particularly potent in the upper reaches. Low-rpm pull could be better. Surprisingly, no supercharger noise.

Transmission Performance- An accomplished automatic. In auto mode, shifts occur in a predictable fashion, and in manual mode, shifts occur without much delay.
8.0 / 10 Brake Performance- Powerful and fade-resistant. Reasonably solid pedal that gets grabby right when you reach a stop.

Steering Perfomance- Quick and fairly precise. Feel could be better.

7.5 / 10 Fun-to-Drive- Fun isn't what it's all about, but the XF is a reasonably willing partner when it comes to entertainment.

8.0 / 10 Ride Comfort- Ride quality is controlled without being overly firm, though the big 20-inch wheels feel too massive when traveling over certain bumps.

8.0 / 10 Road Noise- Some thumps from the tire's short sidewalls. Tire hum and roar is minimal.
8.0 / 10 Front Seat Comfort/Space/Access- Soft leather on seats that balance support and comfort. Dash can get in the way of ingress.

8.5 / 10 Visibility- Very good view over cowl and to the sides. Fat C-pillar is a minor blind spot.
7.5 / 10 Instrument Panel Layout- Jewel-like gauges look nice and have high contrast. Some dazzling reflections, though.
7.5 / 10 Climate Control System Layout- Markings on buttons are not immediately intuitive, but work very well once acclimatized.

Audio System Layout- When using touchscreen multimedia interface, there is a noticeable delay in the system's response to commands.

Interior Design- From a design standpoint, this is a striking and sumptuous interior. Too many reflective surfaces can distract, however.
8.0 / 10 Interior Materials- Soft leather and convincing wood meet high-quality plastics. There are some traces of Ford roots in some of the controls and markings.
8.0 / 10 Interior Control Tactile Feel- PRNDL knob is particularly nice to use
