The Great Hybrid Battery Debate

GM battery problems

GM seems to have done a far worse job with their little piddly battery than 'Yota has done: GM battery on the leaky side? With gasoline at $4 a gallon and the Toyota Prius flying out dealership doors, General Motors' mild hybrid vehicles are stuck in neutral because of battery-pack failures. GM had to use 9,000 battery packs to replace leaking ones it recalled, ... Read More...

Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid

more than meets the eye

Regarding the 2008 Malibu mild hybrid, there's a bit more to the "why bother?" question than the EPA estimated 2 mpg increase. Caveat: I've never owned a GM product nor work for any car industry concern. + Mild hybrids like the design in the Malibu and Aura are relatively simple when compared to dual-mode hybrids. The reduced system complexity and small size of ... Read More...

Re: Another Broken Vue [dcpt1999]

Your mechanic is correct - Saturn is sending out another recall letter. However, they are NOT replacing the whole Hybrid battery. Here are the important paragraphs from the recall letter: The recall includes all 2007 AURA Green Line and VUE Green Line as well as certain 2008 model year Saturn AURA Green Line Hybrid Vehicles. There may be a voltage imbalance within ... Read More...

2008 EPA Rating: Tahoe Hybrid 21/22, Mercedes 18/24 (2008 rating is about 10% lower than 2007). More info can be found in the following article. What Do Tahoe, Camry Have In Common? Chicago Tribune By Jim Mateja Dec. 16, 2007 The Toyota Camry sedan and Chevy Tahoe SUV have something in common. Nope, not four-wheel-drive security or three rows of seats to hold seven ... Re: There are Good things about the Hybrid Vue! [megfox]

To chmsomm and Megfox: I said production is ramping up. Does this mean there are currently 25 new GLs at your local dealer? No. It means that they are being produced and will be available for purchase soon. Please check the SaturnFans boards—-you will notice that there are users who have ordered their 2008 Aura GL and expect them within a few weeks. I also haven’t ... Read More...

Good things about the Hybrid Vue!!!

1. Serious question. Has anyone seen a 2008 Hybrid Vue??? I have not. Has Saturn stopped production of the Hybrid Vue? 2. Serious question. How many Hybrid Auras were sold? Are they having similar problems? 3. Not so funny humor. The good thing about the Hybrid Vue: With Less than 7000 of them made, if I put it in the garage and don't drive it, I could have the last one. ... Read More...

Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid

Re: It boils down to this [scortch]

With CAFE standards as they are, I suspect even a gain of 10% helps. I drove a previous generation Saturn Vue hybrid with this similar setup, and I didn't notice much difference between driving it and a standard version. From what I've read the Prius/Camry hybrids draw a lot of attention to their "hybridness" in terms of performance, braking, etc. If the Malibu ... Read More...

Re: It boils down to this [scortch]

The Malibu Hybrid does provide about a 10% increase in fuel economy, but by the same token the cost is about 10% greater than a base model...so somewhat of a wash there I suppose. The benefit I see for this model would be for someone like myself who will be trading in a 2000 Impala, so the gas mileage increase from my current car to the Malibu hybrid will be more like 25%. ... Hybrids Success in the Marketplace - Hybrid Sales Numbers

List of currently available hybrids

A couple of years ago, Gary and I were discussing whether or not hybrids would "survive" and I was saying how many upcoming hybrids there were. He was somewhat doubtful. Here is the current list: * Ford Escape 2WD Hybrid Model Year 2008 * Mercury Mariner 2WD Hybrid Model Year 2008 * Ford Escape 4WD Hybrid Model Year 2008 * Mercury Mariner 4WD Hybrid Model year 2008 ...
