Re: Fuel Type for Pontiac G8 [lvhatchbk]
Even though I know what you mean, your question highlights a common point of confusion: the difference between "recommended" and "required" when it comes to octane. If the word "required" is used, end of story. A 91 octane requirement is a hard stop. Of course you are free to go higher, if you can find it and are willing to pay. If "recommend" is in the language, then ... Read More...
Why a G8? Why not a G35?
Pontiac/ Cadillac dealership, which had been in business for 22 years, closed its doors just yesterday three blocks from my home. (Hint: I live in an affluent near northwest suburb of Chicago in which Hillary Clinton grew up.) No prior notice to customers, all inventory was apparently hauled away overnight except for some SRXs and six Escalades, that GM and ... Read More...
Re: 335i & 135i v. G8 [wideglide]
FWIW: 2008 EPA mileage rating comparison BMW 335i w/steptronic: 18 city/26 highway/21 composite Pontiac G8: 15 city/24 highway/18 composite Keep in mind, too, that the G8 will run fine on 87; BMW requires minimum 91 octane. I calculated a cost comparison and, using the composite numbers and regular/premium price difference, the G8 would be about 10% more ... Read More...
Mark ups
These ridiculous mark-ups aren't directly related to Pontiac, but to the greedy dealers. The G8 has only been available for 6 weeks or so; Pontiac dealers are notorious for this behavior. I purchased a 2004 GTO for $8,000 below sticker; identical car was priced $5,000 over sticker 9 months prior. If you really want one of these, be just a bit patient. I have already ... Read More...
Re: V6 vs. V8 [cracovian]
Your profile indicates that you are in Atlanta. There certainly are V8s around here. ( I live in Duluth. ) Last I checked, only a few minutes ago, the G8 search function ** STILL ** appears to be broken . . . In that it only shows V6 \ Base models in inventory. Even when you choose GT as the Model. Thus I built the URLs below to show me ( only ) V8 \ GTs. If you can not ... Read More...
Re: Edmunds Test: 13.7 @ 104 [holdenguy]
Well, holdenguy, they are almost here, it appears. A number of the First 888 are apparently en route to dealers. Regarding price, I agree that ( on paper & in videos ) the $30K base makes the G8 GT a screaming bargain - ** IF ** the car lives up to what many have been saying in the press about the US versions. I have not yet put my deposit down, for several reasons. ... Read More...

Re: Pontiac G8 [allmet33]
I can't speak for what the dealers were told but originally, the Genesis sedan was slated for US release in the second half of 08 so it's actually ahead of schedule, based on what I was told at least, in June. :) Yes, there are some movie sneak previews half a year in advance, or more. I recall seeing at least one just about a week ago :shades: Regardless, this is nothing ... Read More...
Re: Pontiac G8 [captain2]
Then CR needs to have their facts checked. Hyundai has not fooled anyone; Hyundai has said time after time the car would be available for the US market in summer 2008, and not now. Those SuperBowl ads even ended with the word "Summer 2008" (IIRC) - kinda like a early movie preview :shades: It would only make sense Hyundai takes this time to prep the launch, especially ... Re: Pontiac G8 [captain2]
The G8 is a big car just like the 300, how it would be that much better just doesn't 'figure'. It's all about the steering response and handling, my captain. ;) From Inside Line's Comparison Test: 2008 Dodge Charger R/T vs. 2008 Pontiac G8 GT: - First of all, these are not small cars. But the Charger is even bigger than the G8. Slightly. - When the two are parked side ... Read More...
