Buying Used Mitsubishi Outlander

  • Re: 2004 Outlander a good buy? [mmccreadie]

I have two Outlanders. An 04 and an 08 SE. My wife uses the 08 now so our oldest daughter has pretty much taken over the 04. It's AWD and very minimal with the gadgets but still a very good and solid performing vehicle. Great handling in crummy weather. The Mivec 4 cylinder was put in the 04 - 07 Outlanders, has about 165 hp and with a few upgrades is ... Read More

I made a very serious error in purchasing a 2010 Outlander XLS 4 weeks ago. It is sitting dead in my garage right now. Emergency Roadside Assistance is going to have to come tow it to "the nearest dealership", which is not where I purchased it, but I really don't care. The key fobs don't work, the manual key doesn't work - the car is completely stone dead at 4 WEEKS ... Read More

The volume models are old - Galant and Eclipse. I agree with you about it being foolish to depend on sport coupes - they suffer from "flavor of the month" syndrome. They're hot when they are brand new, but sales drop off quickly as new competitors arrive. So you only get decent volume for a short period. Galant is how old now? I think it came out in 2004. Remember when ... Read More

What was on the cover? What month, I mean? I honestly didn't see that chart. I looked again at the January 2010 issue and saw something about Owner Satisfaction (Escape and Mariner Hybrids win the category). Maybe you saw a special edition/buyer's guide? I do have that, the "Buying Guide 2010" book and on page 172 they rate the 07 Outlander "Much Better than Average" but the 08 is merely "Average". ... Read More

    >> Being from the manufacturer it can be considered propaganda, but I find them interesting. As I wouldn't be off-roading (intentionally), I was mostly impressed with the ice video. That is applicable to road conditions that can happen on occasion here in Chicagoland. I have been searching too. There is one online if you search hard but I cannot make my mind up if its for the 2.4 petrol 2004 UK model or not. Where are you? What sort of jobs were you wanting to take on? I did both front and rear pads this year and they were the easiest I have done ever. The service schedule is in the owners handbook and ... Read More

I'm a huge Mitsubishi car fan. I'm on numbers 2 and 3 now and thinking of getting a new Outlander. In the Portland, Oregon/Vancouver, Washington area we now have 3 Mitsubishi dealers. Every dealership I have bought a vehicle from has went out of business. My first Mitsubishi was a 1997 Mirage LS Coupe, Bangkok blue. What a great car. I drove it 9 years with no problems at all. I'm pretty sure that Mitsubishi has decided to stay in the North American market also. I think if they were even considering leaving the U.S. then they would have done so in 2004 - 2005 when everyone in the automotive world said they would leave. The connections with the other Mitsubishi companies, MHI and MBOT in particular, allowed them a little breathing room to bring in the redesigned Outlander and Lancer. ... Read More

By buying the Outlander, you will help the company stay in business and will definitely help us current Mitsubishi vehicle owners by getting warranty repairs if needed. But this has not happened in our case. Our 2003 Outlander has exceeded our expectations by being worry-free throughout the time since we bought it. The same is true for our 2004 Galant. It has been years since they have predicted that this car ... Read More

I've owned a 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander since November 2005 and had to replace my tires at roughly 40,000 miles. I had a bit of a limited budget and purchased Fuzion ZRi P22560R16 tires. Given the wintery conditions here, I've found these handle quite well in the inclement weather. Road noise is up there a bit on the highway but I've learned to tune it out.

"There is 1 problem........go trade in an Outlander.....Mitsu has very bad resale value" This problem comes from ideas and opinions of people who have never owned or actually driven a mitsubishi vehicle. To cite an example, my brother-in-law says to everyone that mitsubishi cars and SUVs have poor quality when in fact he has never owned one! My experience with mitsubishi started with a 1987 1.4L RWD lancer and because of ... Read More

I am hoping to finance a used vehicle in the next month. I have narrowed it down based on my price range to the (2002/2003) Jeep Liberty and the (2003/2004) Mitsubishi Outlander. I have done my own research and discovered pros and cons for both vehicles. I was looking to get some advice on here. I am new to these forums so I hope I am doing this correctly.

The Evolander Concept has all the features you mentioned. A Ralli-Art badge, Ralli-Art front strut bar, and yes they do have Brembo brakes and paddle shifters. Because this vehicle was given the Ralli-Art treatment. So why build a concept car like the Evolander. MMNA's press release is very clear about this. “The Evolander builds upon the reputation that the Lancer Evolution sedan has built among tuners and car enthusiasts. Like the ... Read More

Recently, I have been peppering the forums with my undisguised praise for my 2004 Mitsu Lancer Sportback. I managed to get it with only 8k miles on it for $11,200 - maybe I'm bragging about it so much because of the price! ;) Anyway, it's a huge, huge step up from my previous '00 Corolla and, overall, it's a great mix of value and performance. It is confirmed directly from Mitsubishi that the '04 Model 2.4 I4 Engine will be using the new MIVEC technology which is the equivlent of Honda's VTEC or Toyota's VVT-i. The New engine will be making atleast 160-162HP with 160+ Torque and much improved fuel economy. This will put the Outlander at the top of it's competitors. We're hoping that Mitsubishi will use the 3.0 V6 with 200+HP for future Outlander ... Read More
