Nice Truck

Review

I had this truck for over 2 yrs. I really like it. I lived in snowy MA and it handles great in the snow and ice. The tires don't seem to have worn much and no brake work yet. I used to commute 45 mi one way, 5 days a week and I find the drivers seat comfy. Not a 10 but, not awful either. The body is sharp looking and black looks great. I've also installed a hitch and have towed 5k lbs no problem. Gas is ok at around 20-24 mpg on the 3.0L v6. The negatives...stupidly placed cup holders, crappy stock stereo, and the price of parts (a reason to buy American). I have 102k mi on this and have only had the regular mtc done (belts, plugs, etc). I'd buy again.

4x4, height above other vehicles, interior room for cargo (60/40 rear)

diffrent cup holders, better gas milage, drivers seat with shock absorbers (like rigs)

Great value in a nice looking SUV

I purchased my 1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport used and got a great deal on it, partly because it was listed as an LS pkg. I think it looks sharp, especially since I added an exterior push bar on the front. It drives a little rough for the rear passengers, but that doesn't bother me as a driver. The only mechanical problem that I have had with it was with the electricle system left me high and dry twice because of a loose connection. I have 88,000 miles on it and once that got fixed I have not had any problems, knock on wood.

Favorite Features

The exterior looks, 4WD, and nice factory sound system. The rear hidden cargo is nice to use to keep things secure while out of sight.

Suggested Improvements

Relocate the cup holder, it is annoying having drinks blocking the radio.

This vehicle is great , never had aproblem with it and still going strong. i changed the tires at 80000 miles. Been towing a 6x8 u haul every 3 moths up from SF to LA though the grapevine with no probs, gets goos gas milage. spartan interior but fullty functional, never had a problem going though the mountains either.

The look never looks old, the folddown seats are great.

I LOVE my Montero Sport. Bought it new in 1999 and can't bear to part with it. Fun to drive - have never had any mechanical problems in 5 years and 52000 miles. changed brake pads at 35000 miles - no problems - fun and easy to drive. Suspension is a little stiff for a bit more rougher ride but still comfortable. No body problems - 5 years old and still looks brand new.

CUPHOLDERS! They block radio and air controls but I work my way around it.

Love my Montero Sport

Bought my '99 Montero Sport used with 18,000 miles in late 2000. Truck now has 54,000 miles on it. Have had two minor problems with it. Easy fix by dealer. Did have locks taken off the wheels (saw that one comming!). Drives solid and smooth. Style is great, looks better then most other new SUV's. Use mine off road for hunting. It will go most any where! Love it!

Wanted a stylish, reliable, easy to handle SUV and have really enjoyed driving this car. Even at 4 yrs. old people still ask me if I just bought it... Interior cloth seats are easy keepers and always look good. Have regular oil changes, tire rotations, recommended key service and it runs great. Didn't need new tires until 45,000 miles. Fold down seats allow for hauling oversize items. Love this car.

Review

I've had my XLS Sport for 2 1/2 years and absolutely love it. Purchased it used after comparing to 4-Runner, Grand Cherokee & Pathfinder. For the $$ it was the best option far and away. Save $10K over comparable 4-Runner. It is very dependable, great in the snow & ice and overall well designed. Would definitely recommend it to a cost- conscience buyer. Only concern is that it's suspension gives a stiffer ride than its competitors but its well worth it off road.

Easy 4-wheel drive that works well. Storage bins in cargo area.

Suggested Improvements

Cupholders block radio and climate controls. Improved in later models, I believe.

Montero Sport Limited 4WD

The limited has all the power you need. It drives like a reasonably comfortable car with everything you want with a 4WD. One set of Brakes in 75,000 miles. Have the 100,000 milese Bumber to Bumber but the only thing I've replaced was the Rear Wiper Motor. Should have saved the money. Dealer is great. I drove a loaner that was the base model that didn't ride anything like mine. I'm glad I got the limited.

Favorite Features

It is not a racing SUV, but it sure gets you where you want to go reliably and in comfort. Very steady ride. Want a new vehicle, but can't bring myself to trade this one in.

Suggested Improvements

Would look better and more aggressive with bigger tires that fill the wheel well a little more.

FAIR PERFORMANCE,GOOD LOOKS AND MECHANICAL RELIABILITY. AT 40,000 MILES HAS DEVELOPED A FEW RATTLES AND SQUEAKS, BUT STILL LOOKS GREAT AND DRIVES WELL.

I dont know what these other guys are talking about. If your thinking of buying a nice SUV that wont break your bank and looks good, then this is it. I bought mine at 3 years old with over 60k on it (as a second vehicle for towing) and it runs fantastic. I've travelled from Florida to NY three times with it in 4 months and the only noticeable problem is a slight shudder between 2nd and 3rd gears (its automatic) if the RPMs are Very low. I feel this maybe twice a week. If all I have to do to a vehicle with this many miles on it Im thankful.

Favorite Features

Cool pockets in the overhead, storage under the rear floor, map pockets on front seats, good cargo room for thid size SUV.

Suggested Improvements

Yes, the cupholders are annoyingly in the way of the stereo, especially since i put in an aftermarket one. There are simple and cheap solutions for this that any one can do.
