Mitsubishi is a reliable brand. Especially Montero ( full size). I personally own a 2004 Montero LTD. But before that I owned '85 and '93 Montero. Montero has a long history of reliability. Whomever has doubt about the off-road capability of Montero 2003-2005 ( I mean serious offroad) Car and Driver Television just had an episode Last weekend in Spike TV channel. Let's make sure that we compare equivalent cars here... If it's a used LTD 4x4 Endeavor we're talking about for less than $20K then I'd definitely consider it but chances are it's an LS. Recent Monteros are always loaded and are now most heavily discounted new Mitsubishis. If I were to get one I'd go for a new 2005 (just shy of $30K before TTT - $7K off the MSRP). Used ... Update: Well, I have another frustrating experience to add. I went to the local Mitsubishi dealership to see what they are offering. They would not back down on price at all. They are trying to sell a 2003 Montero XLS for $28,000 ($38,000 minus some imaginary $10,000 rebate). It a little over 2100 miles on it. They didn't even have any 2004s on the lot. It's a high quality Japanese-made SUV. It's no offroad goat anymore but still very capable in all-weather conditions on the road. It's a bit underpowered and thirsty. The interior is great! My dealer also has numerous 2003 models left over. I like the black gauges vs the white in the 2004 models, but does anyone have a good idea of what price Mitsubishi is willing to unload a 2 year old new Montero? Used 2003 Monteros are selling for the mid 20's here, but the new ones have the warranty going for it. Any help would be appreciated. If the prices are the same, ... Read More...

I was thinking of a 2003 model with not too many miles for around $24,000. As for where I would be buying, I'm in Kentucky but would not mind going out of state if I find the right deal. My local Mitsu dealer has two 2004s ($36,000)in stock and one 2003 in black (my wife's car is already black). I might even consider e-bay. In any case, I agree with someone in a previous ... Hi - I live in Puerto Rico where I just looked at the 2003 Mitsubishi Montero SR. Apparently, from what I've read, the SR was discontinued in the US maybe six years ago, so information on it is very hard to find. Does anyone know why the SR was discontinued?
