Going on fwy at 65 / 70 mpg. Timing Belt went out. It was replaced at 60,000. Thought I got a great deal, 4000 cash in November and this happened in Jan at 103,000 miles. In all probability it seems that being it is an interferance engine, that my valves are probably ruined. Got an estimate for 1800 to do the entire job. if so, ... should it just cut my ... Read More

I seem to be having lots of trouble with our LTD lately and have lost faith in our local Mitsubishi dealer (due to a problem they didn't fix correctly). I am trying to find a good repair manual but can't seem to find one. Does anyone know where I can find a good one? I came across an online service (eautorepair.net), does anyone know if their montero manual is good? Thanks... ... Read More

If it is a 4 or 6 cylinder they both are interferance engines in wich the possibility of valve to piston damage will usually occur if there is a timing belt failure. The interval to change the belt is every 60,000 miles according to my Alldata book. Your either way over due or forgot that it was changed 13,400 miles ago. Timing belts usually don't last that long past their interval. ... Read More

I definitely empathize with you. But if your timing belt goes out, it could lead to a bigger and more expensive plight, so you're (unfortunately) right to worry about it. You say your friends diagnosed the problem; are they mechanics, and if friends, could they let you pay for it in installments? Alternatively, I saw a TV news segment the other day that was discussing the resurgence of bartering as a ... Read More

I am a Female that knows nothing about the maintenance of vehicles, besides oil changes. The minor upkeep has been taken care of like the three small belts, my brother put them on. The brake pads were replaced a few years back and new tires about the same time. Unfortunately, I am jobless now and have to work piddly jobs to afford things like food and toiletries. Written by: mrsfor on Oct 22, 2008 12:30:12 PM

So the battery and BRAKE indicators in my 2002 Montero Sport have suddenly coming on, seemingly for no reason. The E-Brake is definitely not on - we never use it. And my husband replaced the battery this morning, but the lights still are on. Any suggestions? We are not close to a Mitsubishi dealership and have limited car repair budget, so any troubleshooting advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Let's make sure that we compare equivalent cars here... If it's a used LTD 4x4 Endeavor we're talking about for less than $20K then I'd definitely consider it but chances are it's an LS. Recent Monteros are always loaded and are now most heavily discounted new Mitsubishis. If I were to get one I'd go for a new 2005 (just shy of $30K before TTT - $7K off the MSRP). Used ... Read More

It's a high quality Japanese-made SUV. It's no offroad goat anymore but still very capable in all-weather conditions on the road. It's a bit underpowered and thirsty. The interior is great! With the $3000 rebate you should be able to dip right under $30,000. I suspect that they'll increase it to $5000 on October 1, maybe even add the loyalty rebate. It's a low-volume vehicle but every Mitsu is right now... ... Read More

Still not as good as my 2002 Trooper but at least there are good chances Mitsubishi will actually stay in business that long :-) http://media.mitsubishicars.com/detail?mid=MIT2004010530337&m- - - - ime=ASC Any news on when 2004 Monteros will be available?

A 2003 limited with package is listed for $38,412 and they are only offering $2,500 rebate which seems high or .09% (which I thought was 0% for 60 months). I lease both a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero and a 2001 4Runner. I would go with a 4Runner; wins hands down. You can still get a great deal on a 2002 models since the 2003 are out now. Don't go with a Montero. I can't wait for my lease to be over in 2004 so I can get myself a used 2002 4Runner. The best SUV out there.
