I bought this truck when it was one year old with 20,000 miles on it from Enterprise Car Sales. In the 9 years I have had it, it has proven to be the most reliable car I have ever owned (better than a Toyota, Honda, and Acura). Only minor problems. You expect to replace some of the accessories (belts, pullies, alternator, ets) eventually. I now have 275,000 miles on it, and still my daily drive to work car and weekend have fun in car. I am now getting concerned about the high mileage, and am looking to buy another Montero, probably a slightly newer SR with low mileage. This truck is smaller on the outside (except for height) and gets better gas mileage than my wife's Acura Legend.
Looks, comfort, off-road ability, highway cruising comfort, gas mileage, and room to carry lots of stuff inside.
The third row seats are a joke and block the view when not in use. I removed mine.
