I have a 2004 Mitsubishi Galant 4 CYLINDER recently as of august 2011, i started hearing a metal like dragging noise hard to tell where its coming from.. Similiar to a heat sheild noise.. Does anyone or has anyone had this problem if so what could it be? I'm kinda leaning towards my breaks but its not constant, more wen i give it gas. and i had the heat sheild removed ... Read More
Does anyone own a 2004 Galant ES that can tell me how this car runs
Is there a Japanese built Diamonte? Or Diamante? I thought that the Diamante was only built in Australia and production was canceled there in 2004 to build the 380 ( Galant ). I assumed that the 2010 Galant was going to be the Concept ZT - or something close to it - on a stretched GS platform. That was also the rumor with the Concept RA. Also, both of these concepts ... I purchased a silver 2004 Mitsubishi Galant and the paint is fading so extensively, it looks as though the car is 15 years old. I am a mother of three teenage boys and money is hard to come by. When I can finally afford to buy a car that was built in the same century ( 2007) that I am living in I EXPECT the automobile body paint not to have ... Read More

Six came from the domestic automakers, and one each came from South Korea and Europe. Twenty-one Toyota vehicles earned top ratings. Honda had 11 vehicles at the top of our ratings. Ford, General Motors, and Subaru each had three, Mitsubishi and Nissan each had two, while Hyundai and Mini each had one. But ... Read More
I have a 2004 Mitsubishi galant and the brakes have been squeaking loudly and constantly since it was bought brand new. it has 34,000 miles and the brakes have been replaced at 27000 miles. The dealer says that its normal but noise is to loud and constant to be normal. The sunroof also rubs against the metal when closing and the dashboard makes a popping noise on hot days. Can anyone ... Read More
Saw some pictures Just of the front, this is what Galant should have looked like for 2004, Much smoother, nothing odd , a smooth hood, w/out the grill seperation...if you go to Autoblog.com there is quite a bit of recent positive news on Mitsubishi..they have some awesome EVO concepts, and seems the next Lancer and Outlander will be major improvements..due for 2007, Hang in there Mitsubishi :)
I bought a 2004 Mitsubishi Galant LS one month ago at 7700 miles. For the last 200 miles it has given only 13mpg. In that only 17miles were on the highway. I mostly use it for shopping and such short trips and occasionally longer trips. On average the speed would perhaps be around 40mph. Is there something wrong with it? Shouldn't it do better? Could the a/c costs have some affect ... Read More
To sudeep and everyone.... Mitsubishi's are as reliable as any Japanese car. As ingtonge18 says..... Problems started when the hot selling Eclipse started using Chrysler's Neon engines which are known to daily break downs plus those cars made in Normal IL, for some kind of reason the build quality is not up to the japanese built. I have a 1998 Mitsu Mirage DE coupe with 1.5L 12 valve 92hp with 4/AT. ... Read More
Does anybody have any advice on a Mitsubishi to Mitsubishi trade..i have a 2004 GAlant ES which has 22k in excellent shape, I basically want a 2005 Galant ES w/moonroof and alloys...will I get a better deal considering I would be trading a Mitsu in?, our local Mitsu dealer has no used Galant's, and never does seem to, for that matter I rarely see a 2004+ gALANT for sale on any ... I've always liked Galants (and Mitsus in general) and I test drove quite a few in the past... I was ready to pull a trigger on a new black 2004 Diamante VR-X for $19K plus TTT when my local Carmax was closing its Mitsubishi franchise last year but someone from NC snatched it from right under me. New Galants had nothing to offer over that car except the side airbags. They're ... Read More
If you really lookes at the numbers you will see Mitsubishi Drastically cut it's fleet business, to strenghten resale and profit..obviously it will take some time.. the 99-03 Galant was nice for it's time but it was a dated design, if you notice alot of newer cars follow the basic design of the '04 Galant, Pontiac's G6,Chrysler's 300 series, Nissan's maxima and Altima, Passat, and somewhat the New 2005 Avalon...they all share ... Mitsubishi needed the 2004 redesigned Galant to be at least a double, instead it was a strike out. The front end with its ugly nose and, at least in base DE models, relatively cheap interiors needs to be improved for 06. I test drove an 04 Galant with the 2.4 four banger (a great, reliable engine) and found it to be a superior driving vehicle than the 3.5 V6 white-hot, best ... Read More
Has anyone had good experience with a mp3/wma player (perferably with aux-in) with 2004 Galant ES or other Mitsubishi models with similar standard audio package? Thanks.
Should I buy this used 2004 LS Galant???? It is used with 19,500 miles from a rental company from Illinois (buying it from Mitsubishi dealer). With a extended warranty (Remaineder of 6 years 85,000 miles) added as well as alarm and autostart. I beleive what you are hearing/feeling is not the actual engine itself, but it is not as well muffled thru the variuos motor mounts and insulation, I drive a 2004 Galant 4cyl, and notice a huge difference when it is warm out, the engine is almost undetectible, warm = expansion of rubber mounts = less room to move. ,Like ing said, its hardly annoying, in fact i think it is the ... PKP; you did very well on your Mitsu purchase, thats an awesome price by at least 4Grand or so. Mitsus financial status isn't the greatest, but they just got another 3billion from there sister Mitsubishi company's, If you really search, you will find that it is really starting to level out. Mitsubishi cars/suv have generally been well received by the Media. Today I probably saw a dozen or so 04+05 Galants, ... Read More
Yes, quite impressively, Mitsubishi chose the GTS V6 (its most sporting and lowest volume model) to compare against the Accord EX V6 and Camry XLE V6. In actuality, Mitsu should have leveled the field by using the sport edition Camry (SE), but perhaps they didnt want to, given that car's similar hp and torque. Aside from that you, got a great deal! Congratulations! ~alpha
We just sold our 1990 Mitsubish Galant (original owners) with 120,000 miles on it. The inside and outside looked beautiful. Mitsubishi has probably the best finishes of anyone. Also the car was in excellent shape and expenses for the time we owned it were almost nil. We just bought the new 2005 Galant V6 and love it in every way. The Galants are really built well and the prices are excellent ... Read More

. Mitsu motors has quite a few sister company's, ships, trucks, aluminum, electronics,Bank. You can do a "google search" on what I am about to tell you. A few months back some of these "sister companies" did indeed kick in some bucks. However, the "sister companies" stated in public via a press conference that there would be no more monies forthcoming, Mitsubishi would have to "go it alone" here on out!
2004 Honda EX V6 - $23K 2005 Toyota SE V6 - 23.9K 2004 Mitsubishi Galant GTS - 21.2K (1 at this price, more at $22.2K) Hondas and Toyotas are loaded plus they've got the 5-speed auto, nice leather and interior, and side curtains. I'm all for driving a car for +10 years. Mitsu's shortfalls will stand out even more then. The upfront cost difference is so small that people don't even ... Read More
I think all this talk about Mitsubishi sales being low enough for them to go belly-up are a bit exaggerated. Yes, they aren't selling as well as they did back in 2001. But they are still selling plenty of cars to stay in business. For example, the highly regarded VW Passat has only sold 9893 units in the first 3 months of 2004 whereas 14,528 Galants have been sold. Mazda sold ... Read More
Mitsubishi Motors may have done alright in this JDP IQS, but in terms of Long Term Dependability, as measured by both JDP and Consumer Reports, Mitsu still lags. I personally dont agree with JDP, because I have found that CR more accurately tracks the ownership experiences of friends and faimly, and that problems encountered in the first 90 days are not necessarily a predictor of the next 5-10 years. That said, ... Read More
If you are an owner of 2004 Mitsubishi Galant GTS, not only is everything peaches and cream, but it's a beautiful world. I'm up to 5000 miles and the car is absolutely fantastic. I was also impressed the way Mitsubishi Galant rated on this crash impact test shown lately on TV - it only shows they did a lot of improvement on their base structure - "as in solid" structure!!!! I had a 2000 Galant LS before buying my 2004 Accord EX-V6 with Nav. My Galant was purchased new with 9 miles on the odo and had no major problems, except for 2 recalls and having to replace the brakes at 22K...too soon in my opinion. But several things troubled me about the car in general. First, the timing belt had to be replaced at 60,000 miles which seemed to be ... Read More
I didnt say the Camry SE would outhandle the Galant GTS, all I said was that the comparison should have included either the Galant and Camry with base suspensions, or the Galant and Camry with the more sporting suspensions, not a mix and match. Mitsubishi can try as it might to use sensational advertising to spark sales of this car. Its not going to change the fact that as an overall ... Read More
2004 Galant is definitely quite comparable to the Camry. It also exceeds it in many ways yet it hasn't been a hit with the public yet for many reasons... I personally hated the horrible rear visibility, questioned the quality of the interior, and the high initial price. You should also consider the slowly but surely disappearing dealer network and the expensive "timing belt/water pump/some other belt" service every 60K miles. I'm ... Read More
I think it's a good value for the money, no doubt, but my local CarMax (Atlanta) is selling the GTS for over $1K off the MSRP. Local dealers can be squeezed even further. Plus I could take the advantage of the $500 education edge discount since I got my MBA not so long ago. ... Read More

I test drove a 2004 Galant ES today and was pleasantly surprised. Likes - Roomy and comfortable. Exterior styling puts the Accord and Camry to shame. Ride and handling were very good...no rattles or squeaks to be heard. In fact this car was very quiet EXCEPT for the engine noise under acceleration. Trunk uses gas struts and not space-hogging metal hinges. Base 140W stereo with 6 speakers was OK...maybe a little ... Read More
"2004 Mitsubishi still behind the times ny_dude29" You are absolutely correct. The Camry and Accord are proven to more reliable and have a much better resale too. That awful design on Galant too.
Shame on Mitsubishi for gracing such a beautiful name when you pronunce it, but the 2004 Galant is no distinction at all to what you think a name is all about. The build quality is still the same as it's predessor, which won no awards in any car magazine, reviews, or websites that rates automobiles consumers would buy. The car only has a larger attractive size to admire but the 4 ... Read More

Resale values if purchased at same time and driven same amount. Invoice price is using 2003 models, as 2002 data is no longer posted on Edmunds. I looked at LX model Proteges last year as well, and those invoices are also only up by about $100 or $200 for 2003. Both cars ... Read More
I have a 2000 Galant DE that I love, but my lease is up at the beginning of January so I am considering the '04 Galant. I haven't seen one in person yet, and I'm totally torn as to whether or not I like what I see in the photos. I mean, my 2000 is *great*-looking; looks like an older-style BMW. According to the 2004 Mitsubishi Galant brochure I got at the Charlotte International Autoshow today, the galant offers front seat mounted side airbags. I don't see curtains.
I have seen pictures of the new 2004 Galant and in IMHO I think the outgoing 2003 model is better looking. The interior appears to be a bit funkier as well - not as evenly executed as the Camry/Accord. I will reserve judgement until I see it up close. For those of you complaining about Galant fuel economy - are you talking 4 cyl or 6 cyl? The rental I had ... Read More
Does anybody know when the 2004 Galant will hit the dealers? I really liked the looks of my previous Galant ( 1995 Galant ES ). Less road noise 5. better material for the interior dash I guess the newer Galants ... Read More
I've just recently got some updates on the upcoming 2004 Mitsubishi Galant. (from the Mitsubishi Dealer Autoshow) Current model is not in the competative Sedan market anymore with the new Camry, Altima, Mazda 6 and the Accord - The sedan market standards are set much higher, bigger, powerful and more features. The new 2004 Galant will be released next month in the New York International Auto Show. It's a brand new ... Read More
That is the hp of the current top of the line Galant. I gotta believe the 2004 will have more like 220 or more. It is a bigger car than the current models. Mitsubishi is being very secretive about it. If they gave out more info, it might encourage some people to delay their purchase.
What the heck is that monstrosity?!!! Looks like the car has a BEAK! If that's the direction Mitsubishi is planning to take with the new Galant, I'll hold on to my "old" 2000 ES, thank you very much...
