1992 Mitsubishi Expo SP 4dr Hatchback 4WD
Review
We've had our 1992 Mitsubishi Expo since it was new in 1991 as a 1992 model. Our son finally found a way to kill it - it developed a coolant leak and he ignored it until it was too late. This was the best handling car I've ever had in the slippery stuff including our current Audi A6 Quattro and Jeep Grand Cherokee AWD. It has a huge interior for such a small exterior and comfortable upright seating. It has a third row for kids that fold flat into the floor. I never had to change the shocks, cv boots or joints, or have it aligned. Its original brakes lasted past 60,000 miles, and its transmission was still fine after 180,000 miles. Even here at the Salt Capital of America (Seacoast, NH) it had almost no rust anywhere. I would buy one again if it was still sold here.
Favorite Features
Its slippery weather handling, molded flat place in the dash for a coffee cup, perfect placement of cruise controls, roof rack, solid build, nice upright seating position, and great all-round visibility.
Suggested Improvements
The gas mileage could have been better, but 23 mpg is not so bad for a vehicle with AWD. A turbo option would have added to the problem but the extra power would have been worth it. Some of the interior bits are made from flimsy materials and the standard stereo is weak.
