Extremely Unreliable
Vehicle
1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2 Dr GS Hatchback
Review
Like may youngsters, I chose Eclipse to be my first car out of the college in 12/06. With the lil money I could spend, I wanted a decent sports car but this one is highly unreliable. To name a few problems - engine oil leaks heavily, door handles broken, power window button set broken, poor battery and alternator system, cheap brakes, emission problems, bad oxygen sensors and poor efficiency 17mpg in the city and about 21mpg on hwy to name a few. It broke several times on the road and would not start and got it towed at least 5 times in the last 2 years. However, when it runs it is fun to drive and looks great from outside and inside.
Favorite Features
Looks great, leather interior, fun to drive when it runs.
Suggested Improvements
Reliability, better electronics, more power and better mpg efficiency, audio system.
Love this car!

I bought this used car in 2001 with 20k mileages. I drove it for almost 8 years without major problem. The several minor problems: Remote Locker on the left door not work well, sometime would not unlock or lock. I had 1 accident due to rain wet road, crashed the left tire and front bumper after slipped into the shoulder of road. Fixed and runs good. Right now it is 74k and still runs good. I would want to keep it until 200k but due to my wife can't drive 5 speed manual so I have to give it up.

Sport feeling, Cool looking

Awesome Ride
Vehicle
1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2 Dr GS Hatchback
Review
The car is awesome, it runs beautiful and the roar you get from flooring becomes addicting. I haven't had a problem with the car. I was never interested in one but my friend urged me and I don't regret it at all. Its hard not flooring the pedal especially after adding bolt-ons.
Favorite Features
The body looks great. For being stock is pretty low. Turbo spoiler, sunroof, power everything.

MORE POWER!!!!

Fun to drive

Review
Well, I got the GS sports package so it looks like a GST/GSX which is really nice. I bought the car with 99,750 miles, but the people had the car since it was brand new! The car was also in immaculate condition. The things that make me upset is the doors leak black tar, and the car has a small oil leak. But other then that, good car so far.
Favorite Features
Big turbo spoiler, low profile look, headlights, tail lights, stylish hood.
Suggested Improvements
The GS is slow even with the AEM short ram intake and cat-back exhaust system. But, that's the power I'm going to have with the base model. I'm only 16 so my parents did not want me to have a turbo vehicle. I wish they made that base model at least 160 hp then 140 :[

Fun to drive
Vehicle
1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2 Dr RS Hatchback
Review
I got the car over a year ago with around 40K on it. I decided to put a kit on it and some black HS rims. I hit a curb doing like 15 mph and the car was like totaled. The entire bumper, gone. It was too low to the ground. The impact cracked both of my custom fenders. About two weeks later the exterior door handle fell off. About a week later my battery died. Week later someone scraped my entire left fender on the left side. The brakes and wheels started squeaking about a month later. I was ready to total my expensive investment by doing 100 into a wall. However things began to look up with my brother being a car mechanic. I haven't had any mechanical issues. Fun to drive.
Favorite Features
The constant comments and awes. I have a beautiful red with black rims and full kit. Black leather interior with white gauges. Plus I love the sound from my huge exhaust, I learned to listen to the sound and hardly have to look at the speedometer anymore.
Suggested Improvements
Could have a little more kick. Very slow and going up a hill it feels like your car is climbing. People want to race all the time but I pretend not to notice lol.

Worst First Car Ever
Vehicle
1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2 Dr GS Hatchback
Review
I will never own an Eclipse again. I had the car for 8 months, and I put $12,000 in the car, JUST TO MAKE IT RUN! My transmission went, then the engine went. But, I loved the car so I decided to fix the problems, and start for scratch. Horrible idea. Brakes.. Bearings, Power Steering, everything. I was the only person that liked the car just for the exterior. It's small.. and it had the worst squeak I've ever heard (Which I had fixed 3 times)
Favorite Features
It's a good car to drive, if it runs.

Fun first car
Vehicle
1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2 Dr RS Hatchback
Review
This is my first car, and it is a lot of fun to drive. I haven't really driven any other cars as much as i have driven this one so i cant really compare it to much else. So far I have put about 5,000 miles on it and I have to say it's a great car. It accelerates pretty well for the 2.0 liter non turbo engine and it handles very well. It can corner at some pretty high speeds. :)
Favorite Features
The amount of acceleration it puts out for the small engine. It is a little slow when you first step on it, but after around 3,000 rpm it gets this big boost of torque and takes off.
Suggested Improvements
Interior materials seem pretty cheap. The doors are creaky when you push on the plastic

It's been real

Review
I'm soon turning in the Eclipse for something bigger because I'm 6' 4". Other than that, I've owned the car for two years, and I haven't really had any major problems. The only problems I've had is having to change a couple of belts, and the alternator went. In two years of ownership, only about $800 in repairs, which isn't bad for a vehicle with 75K miles.
Favorite Features
It is slow out of the gates, but I love racing people and when they think they've got me beat, right around 30 mph, this baby takes off and leaves them in the dust.
Suggested Improvements
The RS should come with more options, like power locks and windows, the lock on my driver's side needs to be fixed, it won't catch when you open it with the key.

Buy It New or Don't Buy It
Vehicle
1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2 Dr RS Hatchback
Review
This car was one of the worst investments I've ever made. It's cute and fun to drive, but it has consistently fallen apart on me. I've even had the door locks fixed three times - they keep falling into the door. My trunk hasn't ever opened and my horn only works sometimes. Little things that shouldn't break on a car seem to always break on my car. I can't wait to sell it.

Sick ride
Vehicle
1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2 Dr GSX Turbo 4WD Hatchback
Review
The Mitsubishi Eclipse is very expensive to maintan, yet very fun to drive. It eats gas if you have a heavy foot and it takes only premium, which can be expensive. With around $1,000 in modifications, you'll easily be able to get 250+ hp.
Favorite Features
This car is very stylish, the turbo is fast, and the interior design is great.
Suggested Improvements
Improve the stock wheels, ride height, and very large wheel wells.
