Great Car with Potential
Vehicle
1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2 Dr GSX Turbo 4WD Hatchback
Review
Everybody hears about the reputation these cars have, but people who have experience will tell you different. If the car is taken care of, this car is awesome. It has the tried and true 4G63 which can be made powerful with ease. The '95 model has an EEPROM ECU and no CAS so it will be a positive for modders. Also, since its a '95 and AWD you are exempt from OBDII test and dyno test. This is the best year, just do the conversion and you are set.
Favorite Features
The 4G63 turbo motor and AWD.
Suggested Improvements
The 97-99 body conversion.

Great Car
Vehicle
1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2 Dr GSX Turbo 4WD Hatchback
Review
Overall, this car is by far my best investment ever. It looks great, and drives fantastic. It provides great performance and decent handeling. The only downside to my car is the gas milage while driving it hard. I don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon. Upgrading parts on it is fairly cheap, and makes it even better.
Favorite Features
The looks. Inside and out, it looks, feels, and drives awesome.
Suggested Improvements
The only thing that I can think of would be some better springs/coilovers on the car. I plan on upgrading mine. It brakes down every once in a while, but overall it is a great car.

I have only had it for two weeks, but it's completly stock and runs great and so smooth. I'm loving it! Not sure what I plan on doing with it, but I just hope it doesn't turn out to be like my 1995 Eagle Talon.

best bang for the buck
Vehicle
1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2 Dr GS-T Turbo Hatchback
Review
I bought my gs-t in early 2004 with 94k on the clock. I added a 16g turbo, ported manifolds, 3" down pipe and exhaust (no cat) 550cc injectors, apexi fuel control and boost control. When properly tuned this car would pull away from ZO6 Corvettes from a roll. I loved this car, it has been my 3rd DSM so far and the fastest. All I ever put into it was regular maintenance. The motor never failed to start up, even on cold mornings, and ran smooth alsways despite being raced at the track and on the street. I always had boost set at 17psi and the car never complained!!
Favorite Features
4G63 powerplant. Bottom line.
Suggested Improvements
Get rid of the cheap plastic interior parts. And just sell the car with a 16g+ sized turbo from the factory.

I bought this car because of it's looks. I do not recommend to buy as used car. After 80k miles replaced transmission. Sunroof leaks. Now at 100k miles the car sometimes will turn but not start. I have taken it to couple of mechanics and they can't find the problem. I will be paying dealer's repair price to figure this one out.

Power for a price
Vehicle
1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2 Dr GSX Turbo 4WD Hatchback
Review
In the course of owning this car, I have become a DSM mechanic. It is important to realize that anytime you attempt to push HP levels beyond what the manufacturer intended, you sacrifice reliability. However, I have been more unlucky than most. I was diagnosed with crank walk 1 month after purchase. $3000 later and a few modifications the tranny exploded. Now another motor later, and replacement of most moving parts, and at ~400WHP most of my issues have been resolved. As a commuter car or grocery getter, this is not the ideal car. As a platform to create a very respectable 4 cylinder drag car it is ideal. For that power you pay the price in reliabity.
Favorite Features
AWD + (slightly bigger) Turbo + boost = 0-60 faster than any production car.
Suggested Improvements
Crankwalk is a problem known to mitsubishi. A full recall would cost hundreds of millions in full block replacements. It is real and it is quite common. If stricken with this there is a great deal of info on the web about 90-94 block replacements to curtail future crankwalk issues.

Review
I bought this in 1998 and definitely got my moneys worth! It was a base model, but had a spoiler and sunroof and I added a nicer cd system. The car was very reliable for me driving back and forth to school/work and home. I loved the dark green and how it can fit in just about any parking spot! Also got great gas mileage! While trying to avoid an accident my car ended up over an embankment and hit 8 trees- the car was a mess, but completely took the impact. I broke the front and rear axles, both bumbers were gone and every body panel dented and I...bruised my index finger! GREAT crumple zones! I'm buying a '98 eclipse tomorrow!
Favorite Features
moonroof, easy to reach stereo, not a large blind spot, body style, gas mileage, folding back seats
Suggested Improvements
backseat, but on newer models that seems to have been addressed; the moonroof cover broke so many times I ripped it out;

I bought the car brand new from the dealer. I can't say I had any major problems with the car other than regulare maintenance. I hit 150K with the orginial engine before I spun a bearing. Overall, I really liked the way the car handled. For a non-turbo model, you get what you pay for.
