MINI Cooper Clutch & Transmission Questions
Re: 2004 MINI Cooper Clutch Problems [stephwisdom]
This is very disheartening. I find it unbelievable that a clutch would go out at 14,500 miles -- and that's what they are telling me. They won't cover any of it. If a Ford Mustand can make it on two clutches in 230,000 miles, a brand new mini should make one year of use and I don't care if you are the worst driver in the world! My boyfriend successfully sued Mini in 2002 ... Read More...
MINI Cooper Care & Maintenance
black trim
The black trim around the top of my new Cooper(less than 2 months old) is fading in areas. There is about a six inch strip on one side and almost that much on the other. The trim on my 2002 Honda looks better than the trim on the Mini. Is there anything to put on it as a treatment to protect and/or bring the color back. This is really disgusting considering the age of this ... Read More...

black trim
The black trim around the top of my new(less than 2 months) Cooper is lightening up in spots. There is probably a 6 inch strip on one side and almost that much on the other. Any suggestions as to how to treat this trim. I am really disgusted that this is already happening. My 2002 Honda's trim looks better than my 2009 Mini Cooper. I'm not sure the Mini Cooper is all it's ... Read More...

MINI Cooper Steering issue - popping
I have a 2002 MINI Cooper S with roughly 38,000 miles. Bought it second hand last year. I've been noticing since this spring that I can feel a popping sensation through the steering wheel once in a while when turning or driving over rough or uneven pavement. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this. If so, any idea what the culprit was? I'd like to get an idea ... Read More...

Re: Fearing the worst re: transmission [mspepper]
Hi, there. I never received the e-mail chain, although at this point I don't think it would make much difference for me. I had a massive transmission failure at about 70k (2002 Mini Cooper) and elected to have my transmission repaired at a local independent BMW shop for 8k, as opposed to paying 12k at the dealer in San Francisco. However, since I didn't have the work ... Read More...

Re: 2004 MINI Cooper Clutch Problems [cracker2225]
I feel your pain. My 2002 Mini cooper with only 34 thousand miles just blew a transmission 2 weeks ago. As I am finding out this is the norm. My sister owns an S model, with 55 thousand miles and I have not given her the bad news yet. My father raced and built engines for the originals and I grew up with Minis. Morris motors must be horified to see what BMW has done to their ... Read More...

What is "wrong" with these new subcompacts?
Re: according to Ford [andre1969]
Well, just look at how few models we have had to consider in our musings in this thread, up to this point. What, 7? Yaris, Fit, Versa (questionable, it's biggish), Mini Cooper, Aveo, Accent, Rio. 8 if you include (as many seem to want to) the Smart car. In 2002, the baseline year for Ford's remarks, there were even less (no Fit yet, no subcompact Nissan, no Aveo? I forget, ... Read More...
