1998 Mercury Villager 2 Dr LS Passenger Van

Review

Overall it has been an excellent vehicle. (Thanks to the Nissan parts). Some minor issues with locks that have frozen and the radio control on the steering wheel occasionally does not respond. Knock on wood; it has 140,000 mi on it, no major problems yet.

Favorite Features

comfortable seats with lumbar support, plenty of power, handles firmly. Room for family and dog!

Suggested Improvements

I've never had a car before that locks froze up on (no amount of WD-40 helps), talked with several others who own same vehicle with same problem. Thank goodness 1 works fine, another just hard to turn.

Have had this van for a year. Not one problem. The best Ford or Nissan out there.

Favorite Features

Radio control in the back for the kids I thought was kinda cool until they started playing with it. Kids never tire of that. Then I learned how to disable it. Happier now.

Suggested Improvements

Sliding doors on both sides

Wife bought this van almost a year ago have not put one dollar into this van.Never have had a second thought about its purchase.Would buy another in a heart beat

Favorite Features

Think it's the best looking van out ther today. Two tone paint and factory wheels. Tinted windows on the outside and all the bells and whistles that you could want on the inside make this a van that you look back at in the parking lot

Suggested Improvements

This might not be the most powerful van on the market But if you want to drag race you should not buy a van any way. The ride and the comfort is better than many cars on the market

Review

I have used it for everything from running to the store to hauling the local boy scout troup on weekend campouts (fully loaded with cargo on top!). It is strong, reliable, comfortable and looks good. The only thing I have done to this van is change the oil, filters, brakes, tires and it is still goin strong with 107000 miles on it. I believe anyone who grips the steering wheel of one of these beauties won't let go! It's the only way to travel whether in town (18mpg) or on the highway (21-27mpg depending on the load and how hard you drive it).............I LUV THIS VAN!!

Favorite Features

The quad seating, dual a/c, and dual stereo controls (the person in the back can operate the stereo on road trips so I can drive)

Suggested Improvements

LEAVE IT ALONE!!! 98 was the last year of the 3dr. I like the fact that my kids have to exit the vehicle on the curb side only.....BRING BACK THE 3DR!!

Review

This vehicle has been totally reliable. It has required zero work, not even a tune up. Just brakes, tires, Oil changes and one Battery. It has 186000 miles and just passed California emissions with out a hitch, gets 21.5 miles to the gallon freeway. It does have a really annoying "service engine soon" light that is suppose to make you take it to the dealer for repair. It comes on for a 1000 miles and goes off or a 1000 but what ya gonna do? This is a fantastic unit. I had a 97 model also, I put 55k on it and traded it in on this one. It was perfect too.

Favorite Features

The tail gate is nice, it opens up so I can stand under it when loading or unloading from the back. I am 6'2 and I don't bump my head. The Captains chairs come out and you can slide the rear bench up forward for lots of cargo. Very durable fabric and carpets.

Suggested Improvements

Rear power mini vents like the Dodge has, Loose the service engine soon light

Review

This is one of the best minivan I have ever driven. I am only 17, but I really enjoy this van! The 6 CD Changer, power, and the black with gold trim is really quite a car. I drive it almost 100 miles daily to and from school, and it goes without a hitch. The mountains (cuz thats where I live) are no trouble for its engine with at least the mid grade gas. I am really impressed with the overall quality of this van, and we are looking now at the Estate Premium model.

Favorite Features

CD Player, Power Everything, Good Stereo, Remote Entry, Outside Looks, comfortable seats

Suggested Improvements

Make more room for the rear passengers by allow the loss of the third bench, and dropping back the buckets back about 6 more inches. Also design new locks! Mine are always getting stuck when I use the power lock/unlock feature

Review

I bought mine new in 1998 (last year of that model) and never had any problems with it. I have changed the oil, tires, break pads and gasoline filter. That's it. I think it's the best minivan for the money, many friends of mine who had Crysler or Dodge have all sorts of problems... my neighbour has a Villager with 125K miles on it - never had one problem either.

Favorite Features

Reliability -it's great when you don't have to spend money on repairs or think about possible break down. I like everything about this car.

Suggested Improvements

Driver's cupholders are bad, but if you buy a center console that will take care of it.

have had my 1998 Viillager for 2 years now - very happy with it! Handles well; more like a car than a van. Smooth; acclelerates nicely.
