Knock Sensor?
I have a 1996 Mercury Villager, and I thought I had a knock sensor issue, but now I am not certain. I have three codes present, P0136 Downstream O2 sensor or circuit fault, P0325 Knock sensor and or circuit fault, and P0400 EGR insufficient flow detected. I have pulled the knock sensor sub-harness and have checked volts at the connection. I have 3.28 constant and ... Read More...
Nissan Quest/Mercury Villager problems
Steering noise.
Mercury Villager (1996), mileage 120,000. I have a problem turning at low speed. When I try to park, I can't. The noise is a loud squeal and I almost have to stand on the wheel to turn it. While I drive on the highway the steering is fine. Does this sound like the powersteering pump or rack and pinion? The timing belt has not been changed yet and I need a new exhaust. Some ... Roof Panel (Sunroof)
I have a 1996 Mercury Villager with now over 281,000km's on it(from Ontario Canada). I have noticed lately that the Sunroof rattles a lot. I have opened and closed it to see it if is correctly closed and it seems ok. On really windy days you can hear the wind whisle through it. It doesn't leak (yet anyway). I was wondering if anyone can give me some sort of idea as to what ... Read More...

1996 Mercury Villager
The throttle senser is screwed to the back of the throttle by two screws, one in the top, and the other in the middle of the rear of the body. It is a little hard to see and put back. If you need a diagram, I can scan my manual, and e-mail it to you. Earl Read More...
1996 Mercury Villager
Hello, I am having a problem with my throttle body senser I know that is what it is because I had a test ran on it and the reason why my check engine light is on is because of something to do with the throttle body senser. The problem Im having is when driving it loses power. Secondly, when at a complete stop and i apply gas to it when going from 1st gear to 2nd it shifts hard ... Read More...
Re: Life of 1996 Mercury Villager [suttons5]
The front struts and rear shocks are due for replacement, if not already done. After that, look for the little stuff, switches, rattles and things of that nature. Just keep up with the usual oil changes, drive belts, bulbs, and you will have many more miles out of this Villager. We have two Villagers, a 93 and a 98. and find that they have most of the same parts between ... Read More...
Re: Life of 1996 Mercury Villager [ebuss]
Yes, I did have the water pump and timing belt replaced last year at about 120K. I know I should have done it earlier. I guess I was lucky! Is there anything else, at the mileage I am currently at, that I should replace? Read More...
Re: Life of 1996 Mercury Villager [suttons5]
Many people on this forum have posted many, many miles with their Villagers/Quest models. With proper care, and maintenance, any vehicle will last many years/miles. You said this 96 has gotten good care, has the timing belt and water pump been changed at the proper time? If so, I would not worry. Earl ;) Read More...
Life of 1996 Mercury Villager
My 1996 Mercury villager has 139 K miles on it. I have taken good care of it, oil changes every 3-5k, transmission flush last year, other various things to keep it reliable. My husband is convinced it is on its last leg and doesn't want me to drive it a thousand miles for the holidays. Does anyone have any advice for me? I really think my car will make it and also for another ... Read More...
