Reliable but lack power
Vehicle
1993 Mercury Villager 2 Dr LS Passenger Van
Review
I am the original owner of villager. Had rebuilt transmission at 75,000. Had mileage close to 30 highway and about 19 city. No other problem so far. One drawback: the car lacks power and not much luggage room. As car ages, the engine appears noisier.
Favorite Features
Reliable and easy to handle like a car.
Suggested Improvements
More power and more luggage room.
It keeps on truckin

In my view, this was a much underrated vehicle by Mercury. I don't think they marketed it correctly, nor widely enough in the market. It was (and still is) a perfect size for my needs...not too large to be a "lumbering big boat on the road" but large enough to carry lots of passengers(up to 7) or cargo. Great design on seat stowage. Take out the middle seat, slide the back seat forward and you have a 5 passenger vehicle with lots of room to stow behind. Need more stowage room? Fold up the rear seat and slide it in rails full forward up against the front seats. A great looking and performing vehicle with 145,000 Miles and still going strong. It rides & sounds better than my 99 Villager!
Favorite Features
Size, Exterior appearance, seat configuration, driveability, low $ maintenance to date.
Suggested Improvements
The middle "Mercury" grille light burned out early on; too many $$ to repair/replace it. Needed to have a dash switch for cabin lights and a glove box light.
Best Vehicle I've every owned

Review
We bought this for the family 8 years ago. Now has 180k miles and runs like a clock. Lowest maint. car I've ever owned. Still doesn't look anywhere near 13 years old. Handles & rides better than most cars. Digital dash very handy. Dual A/C is wonderful and very cold. OEM shocks/struts lasted 150k miles - never had that happen before. No C-V joint issues like other FWD cars. Needed a timing belt at 90k mi. Rear AC died at 70k and it turned out to be a simple cracked solder joint on the main power wire for the rear A/C in the front dash control panel. Leather seats starting to wear now. Exhaust manifold studs cracked at 110k mi - very common on many Nissans. That's all! Just add gas & go!
Favorite Features
Dual A/C. Optional swing-out tailgate window makes loading a snap. Don't buy one without it.
Suggested Improvements
more luggage space, lighter seats, heavier rated luggage rack.

Best $2500 van I could hope for
Vehicle
1993 Mercury Villager 2 Dr GS Passenger Van
Review
I needed a minivan for hauling art stuff and the dog, and this seemed like a pretty sweet deal. It has about 170K miles on the clock, and so understandably has a few problems, notably a wagging tailpipe and worn-out shocks and struts for that creaky-in-the-knees feeling. Other than that, problems are typical- rear wiper's shot, passenger window controls buggy, various nonessential electricals out of order, air conditioning is kaput. Admirable in a 13 year old. I'm particularly astounded by the fuel economy I'm getting. EPA estimates 23 highway, but by limiting my speed to 55 mph, I commonly see 30 mpg. I only wish cars this capacious and versatile were as thrifty nowadays
Favorite Features
Large front door windows, feels like driving a coupe. Tidy dashboard and center bins for an airy cabin feeling. Phenomenal fuel economy if you take it easy.
Suggested Improvements
Automatic self-maintenance, internal hammock attachment points, trolling motor, compressed natural gas conversion kit, removable third-row seat.

A solid family van
Vehicle
1993 Mercury Villager 2 Dr GS Passenger Van
Review
Bought it in the first model year because I felt comfortable with the proven Maxima drivetrain and I loved the styling. I've driven this van for 12 years and found it to be reliable, flexible (you can fit plywood sheets in it!) and surprisingly fun to drive. It is REALLY comfy for long road trips! Only maintenance gripe is some problem with the exhaust manifolds, which tend to warp or something. I got this repaired under warranty at 55k mi, but I had to do it again on my own tab at 110k - ouch.
Favorite Features
Very well-thought-out cabin, comfortable for driver & all passengers. I still think the exterior looks pretty stylish more than a decade later.
Suggested Improvements
The radio controls look sleek, but are a pain to use while driving. There is nothing to differentiate the various controls at a glance or by touch.

Great van!!

Review
We bought it new in 1993, best minivan on the market then. It feels like driving a car, power seat adjusts well to any driver, the rear seat adjustments were most flexible. Smooth drive train, gets about 20 mpg, pretty quiet with good tires. Steering and suspension have a nice feel of the road. No major repair, just expected replacements of tires, battery, mufflers, brake pads. With mud flaps, there's not a single spot of rust after 11 years. The styling is not outdated, very similar to the 2003 Toyota Sienna. The only reason to replace it would be to keep up with neighbors, or to downsize after the kids have grown up!
Favorite Features
Flexible seat arrangements, power driver seat. The muffler places with "life time warranty" hate to see us cashing in.
Suggested Improvements
We replaced the original cassette unit with an AM/FM/CD. Forget about replacing those bulbs in the light bar..who's going to know?

I bought this Van in 1995 as a 2nd owner and had nothing to say bad about it.. Nice heavy van with great performance. I still have it and had no major problems with it. Great van for 11 years old...
Favorite Features
Love the rear AC/Heating controls, Good ride.
Suggested Improvements
Plastic seat adjusters broke. Paint around windshield is peeling. I too hate that light bar. They burn out to often...
Great for a first year vehicle

Review
Overall great. Lot's of little "typical of Villigers" things breaking as Van gets older. Surprised there weren't more recalls.
Favorite Features
Performance and styling. Still one of the better looking vans ever made. Doesn't look 11 years old.
Suggested Improvements
Connection point between engine and exhaust manifold separated twice. Had to pop the engine to fix it at close to $900 a pop. Is a defect that should have been a recall.
