If you reset the gas mileage indicator with each fill up, it will indicate close to actual gas mileage for that tank of gas. This indicator gives average mileage since the last reset.
I bought an 08 Sable new. Gas mileage is around 21 mpg more or less depending on the ratio of city/highway driving. The computer readout re: mpg bears no relationship to reality. It's a great car in many ways but gas mileage is not it's recommending quality.
My 2008 Sable (Taurus twin) came with the synthetic blend. The Ford/Mercury dealers use synthetic blend for changes. They set the oil life monitor for 5000 miles/six months.
The following TSB fixed my 2008 Sable. (I have a pdf file which has a diagram, but I don't know how to include it here.) TSB 07-26-8 FRONT STRUT NOISE - BUILT BEFORE 10/19/2007 Publication Date: December 21, 2007 FORD: 2008 Taurus X, Taurus MERCURY: 2008 Sable This article supersedes TSB 07-19-3 to update the Service Procedure and production fix date. I have a 2008 Ford Taurus that squeeks loudly going slowly over speed bumps or any bumps for taht matter. When I take it in for servicing I'll bring it to their attention but I'm sure they'll say it's normal even though it shouldn't be normal. Susan
I have a 2008 Sable that had the same problem when I test drove it. However, this problem you're referring to has nothing to do with the problem you're describing in earlier models. The pre-2000 Mercury/Lincoln vehicles had a clunking noise in the front end that whenever you mad a hard turn, you would hear the clunking sound. They re-designed the front end in the larger vechicle to stop this.. But.. ... Read More
Don't know much about ethanol in fuel. There are lots of information available on the internet, easily found through a google search. I remember looking it up some time ago. What I do remember is that 5 or 10% ethanol will make a small difference in MPG. Of course, E85 makes LOTS of difference. Do a google and you will find some charts of how this affects MPG. Glad you feel ... Read More
Thanks for the advice.. my problem was not resetting the AVE MPG setting on the display. You were right again by calculating the MPG the old fashion way.. I did receive a better result.. about 1.5 MPG better. Do you know anything about ethenol? How much of a decrease in fuel economy can we expect from the manufactures estimated MPG rating (assuming we're driving with normal habits of course)? Or, does ... Read More
If you are going by the MPG on the display, don't forget to reset it at appropriate times. Also, you will need to manually calculate the MPG based on fuel use and miles driven between fillups (the old fashion way). This calculation will be the most accurate determination, but will have combined city/hwy driving, unless of course you drive only on the hwy between fillups. Another obvious statement. Your milage will ... Read More
Tires are Pirelli's inflated to 35 PSI.. checked them all before the trip... I thought the Overtdrive was set to off but it wasn't.. parking brake is ok.. I just put in some fuel injector cleaner hoping that this does it... I called the dealer where I bought it.. and they offer no assistance... I'll have to see if this is covered on the factory warranty.. thanks for the obvious..
I have a 2009 Sable Premier FWD with 4,500 miles. I consistently get a display reading of 28 to 30 MPG at 65 or 70 mph. At 45 to 50 mph, I get a display of 30 to 32 MPG. THis is with the AC on. I have no idea what is causing your porblem. Check to be sure you don't have the OverDrive off or that you are not using ... Read More
Just bought a 2008 Sable Premier with 18K miles. Took our first ride along the florida east coast cruising at 45 MPH and only got at best 17.5 MPG with hardly little to no stops for several miles. Filled up another tank of gas and drove strictly the highway at 80 MPH for 55 miles and got 18.2 MPG. I bought the car with the understanding that the MPG rating was ... Read More
I just got a used 8700 miles Premium AWD that was returned to the dealer in Yakima. I live in Lake Stevens, WA was smart to search the local state area. I got a fully loaded black AWD with nav, traction, handling, 18 in wheels, leather, heated seats moonroof, Pierlli tires, etc. I almost bought a 2008 20k FWD for 15900 but decided to go all the way and glad I ... 2) Minor adjust nob is two far away. What knob? I'm not sure which one you mean. 3) The trunk needs a latch, or handle You mean as opposed to the dash-mounted button for unlatching the trunk? This feature is much nicer than the manual pull-handle mounted in the floor of my Honda. Different strokes for different folks, I guess!
It's a great car, a lot of car for the money. Powerful 3.5L engine with 6-speed automatic, very good gas mileage for the size. Command seats are a good feature, gives great view and driving comfort - I drove SUV and minivans for the past few years, very similar sitting position. Sound is great, backup sensors work fine. Some very minor issues - hope Ford can improve for future designs: 1) ... Read More
Not many differences between the 2008 Taurus and Sable. Obviously, exterior styling is different. Here's what I posted earlier: Here are the differences I could find between the base 2008 Taurus (SEL with no options) and the base 2008 Sable: 1) Exterior styling differences that are obvious (grilles, fake side vents on Taurus, none on Sable). I think the Sable has the edge here. 2) The fake wood on the Sable ... Read More
After checking, the bulb types come in both Xenon and Halogen. The suffix may be different for the two types. Searching the internet I find Xenon lamps mentioned for the 2008 Sable in the specifications on several car sites. However, I don't see it on the Mercury site. The 2007 Montego specs on the car sites also listed Xenon lamps.
This is where owners of the current model of Taurus or Sable can discuss maintenance and repair experiences with their vehicles, from 2008 and later.
The April issue of Consumers Report rates the reliability of the Accord as "very good" and that of the 2008 Taurus as "good". You should be able to get the Taurus now at a very good price, at least $4k off MSRP after rebates. I recently bought a Mercury Sable, a clone of the Taurus and got a very good deal. http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/WebX/.f166af7/23
We have had our 2008 Sable Premier FWD for 3 months now w/ 7000 miles. We made the change from Grand Marquis's (4) over the past 22 years to the new revised Sable in order to get a lot of good technology that was not offered in the G.M. cars (such as ESC, in-dash GPS, Satellite radio, Voice Sync, etc) The car rides good, but not like the last 2000 Grand ... I believe this thread sort-of functions as that discussion at this point.
Should not the 2008 Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable have a separate discussion group in the sedan forums since they are completely different from the previous versions?
Compare these pictures. The first one is from the Mercury CUV at http://www.popularmechanics.com/blogs/automotive_news/4219078.html and the second one is at http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-taurus-sable-on-track/293664/ , the fact that the Montego has been somewhat redesigned to become the Sable (once again), proves that this CUV had to have been designed recently. This Mercury CUV looks like it is going to be the Mercury version of the Ford Taurus X. What do you think guys?
Anyone know when Ford might update their website to build the x? It seems odd that the x is coming out ... I came across a picture of a Mercury CUV on http://www.popularmechanics.com/blogs/automotive_news/4219078.html This vehicle is supposed to be a model that was shelved by Ford, well anyway, so says the guys at Popular Mechanics. I think that they are wrong about this. I think that this model will be produced ... Read More
I hope you are right and that Mulally is a miracle worker. The reasons I am pessimistic about Ford are several. They need a couple block busters and I cannot see where they will come from. Their moves to turn things around aren't doing much so far. The Fusion is a superior car to the current Malibu, but the Malibu still handily outsells it. The Edge is not s superior product, ...
