I have a 2002 Mercury Sable that Stalls Intermittently. I read the computer code and the only one that comes up is P0191. I did have a problem with the gas cap where it would not seal properly. I finally got that fixed and the car has been running good until recently when it will start fine, run fine, then I will stop off at the store, come back out and ... Read More
I'm having this exact same issue with my 2002 Ford Taurus. Driving down the road it will just turn off then back on. Every light on the dash comes on. Also when it comes back on everything is dim, dash light, headlights, etc. After a few more minutes of driving everything comes back on fully lit. Then sometimes when I turn off the car and get out all of the lights ... Read More
I have 127K miles on 2002 Mercury Sable and did not have any problems at all. Fuel filter has to be changed every 30K miles. I did not change serpantine belt, brakes though. Changed battery once and tires also once (better change because stock tires suck). Spark plugs must be changed at 100K and it is expensive. Do not forget to replace also wires.
I have bought a 2002 mercury sable and I have a question about buying an aftermarket stereo. I have researched many kits so that the aftermarket stereo will fit where the old one did but I have noticed something. The rear defroster is on the other side of kit. Instead of it being next to the fan control knob, it is next to the fan position knob. Will the kits still ... Read More
HOW DO I ROMOVE THE REAR DECK LIGHT HOUSING TO REPLACE THE BULBS??? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED...
robertplattbel and bigdan1: I owned a 2000 Merc. Sable wagon which developed problems first identified in the power steering pump and later in the rack and pinion assembly. The latter would've been replaced but wasn't because the car was totaled in an unfortunate accident. Please do yourselves a favor and have this checked out as it is a somewhat costly repair quite common to Tauri/Sables.

The hood on my 2002 Mercury Sable (station wagon) does not fit snugly against the passenger side headlight. I can stick my finger in the space between the headlight and the hood. Was recently in an accident, had the front of the car repaired, but they didn't get this fixed. The body shop showed me a similar Sable with the same problem. I don't know if it was like this before ... Read More
I recently replaced the resistor and the blower motor on my 2002 Mercury Sable. I know very little about auto mechanics but was able to do it with no problem. In a phone call wherein I described the problem, the dealer said it would take $360 to replace a switch. The problem was that the fan didn't always come on, and if it did come on, it had only two speeds ... Read More
Look in your owner's manual. But I believe there are two fuse boxes. One just underneath the dash near the drivers door, and another "black box" with fuses underneath the hood. Good luck.
Do somebody know where is located the power window fuse and how many amps uses? All the windows refuse to work. I just suspect the problem is with the power window fuse. Thank you for your attention. Ruben E.
2002 Mercury Sable: since it's 30,000 mile dealer service the car has needed two new fuel injectors in 2,000 miles. The car came back form it's service leaking transmission fluid because the dealer over-filled the transmission fluid. Then it started miss-firing and running ruff. Now after 2000 miles a second fuel injector has gone bad. I would appreciate any insights, especially if there is any way the service could have contributed ... Read More
Price? I don't know. But, I have a 2000 Sable LS with 156,000 miles on the std Vulcan V6. Bought it w/ 16,000 miles. With 55,000 miles on the one you're looking at, if there are no maint records, I would change all fluids (cooling, trans, & oil). (At 55,000, trans & cooling should have been done twice already.) Maint is the key to getting max mileage out of any car, ... Read More
I recently bought a 2002 Sable LS of almost this exact description, except also having ABS brakes, Mach Audio, and chrome wheels. The price was $8,500. I don't consider it a particularly great price, but I do think the $10,900 price is absurdly high. For that money I had the option of buying a Lincoln Town Car Signature.
I don't know if that price is a great deal, but Tauri/Sable do depreciate fairly fast, which is a plus for anyone buying one used. They are indeed very good cars, especially when equipped with the Duratec V-6. Solid, with good handling and no suspension wallowing, but no harshness to the ride. Most underappreciated car in the market, in my opinion. You can certainly check the Edmunds used car price calculator, ... Read More

I just purchased a new 2005 sable ls, which replaced my 2002 sable. On the 2002 sable i had the mach audio system with 6-disc cd changer. This system had speakers placed on the upper portion of both the driver and passenger doors which said "mach audio system" on them. In my new sable i also have the 6-disc changer and i thought i also had the mach audio system, but ... Read More
I am replacing the spark plugs on my car and I had no problem with the three front ones but I need help on how to reach the back ones. Do I have to remove something to get to them?
Does anyone have the torque specs for the front wheel bearing nut on a 2002 Mercury Sable? thanks Dave
Does anyone know what the torque specs are for the nut that holds the front wheel bearing on for a 2002 mercury sable.
You seem to know a lot about transaxles, maybe you can help me. I bought my 2002 Mercury Sable used. Everything went fine for the first few months, then the transaxle light came on while I was on the highway. When I stopped and shut the car off and restarted it, the light was gone. But next time on the highway it was back again. After this it didn't happen again ... Read More

How do I replace the blower motor resistor and blower motor? Is there a repair manual I can purchase for the 2002 Mercury Sable?
I've got a 2002 Mercury sable that an alarm bell rings for a couple of minutes after you start the car. I checked the seat belts and doors when this happens and it doesn't make a difference. It also does it when I drive down the road sometimes. It rings 5 times in succession . This goes on for about a minute or two then stops. any suggestions ???
That's too bad about the Sable. The styling of the new Montego does nothing for me at all. I'm a Mercury man from way back, (86 Cougar LS} and I think they offer a quality product. I'm planning on taking my 2000 Sable LS to 200,000 miles. I haven't had any serious problems, and the ride and fit of the car is just fine for my wife(she has the 2002 Sable ... Read More

Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum and wanted to post a message to you all for your feedback concerning the Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable. I purchased a fully loaded 2004 Ford Taurus SEL (with TCS, Mach, Home Link, etc.) back in January primarily to use as a work commuter vehicle. I chose the Merlot exterior with the two-tone parchment leather interior. My other vehicle is a 2003 GMC Envoy XL ... Read More

I just jumped over to the Ford dealer web site I bought mine from. They had about 8-10 SES deluxes with MSRP in the mid 23K range, and also had one leftover 2002 still new that had the Duratec. Motor Trend: 2004 Mercury Sable: Recent indications are that the Sable will separate from its Taurus fraternal twin, instead evolving from the new Mondeo or the Mazda 6. Either choice offers a more dynamic vehicle available in multiple body styles. 2005 Ford Taurus: Taurus goes its own way without sibling Mercury Sable. Next-generation platform may also spawn other vehicle types, such as sport wagon and sport/ute. And the well-regarded Volvo S80 ... Read More

Even Ford Division’s new president, Stephen G. Lyons, recognizes the Taurus’ sales problems. He doesn’t agree with Ford dealers’ dismissive remark that the Taurus is “dead in the water” and is understandably not willing to give it an obituary date, but he does concede that “it’s hard to sell 400,000 a year of anything. So now we’re dividing it (Taurus segment) into lots of 125,000.” To retain the millions of Taurus ... Read More
