Best Sable ever until the 05 model
Vehicle
1995 Mercury Sable 4 Dr LS Sedan
Review
I bought my 1995 Mercury Sable LTS when it was 2 years old with 8,500 miles on it and it still drives as good now as it did then i have never had a problem with my Sable it is still in great condition and has a great smooth ride to be 10 years old and it is very quiet and it has a great feel to the road and i love the Headlamp that goes all the way across the front looks so cool when its on at night and i like the way the dash is made it all lights up electronically and i love the dark green pain and the gold logos and lettering all still shines like new i am telling you this car is the best now my 95 Sable has 92,856 miles which is still pretty low for a car of 10 years of age ...
Favorite Features
The cool looking headlamps that goes all the way across the front of the car and i like the back window that wraps around from the back doors anf i like the smooth comfortable ride and the roomy interior space but everything is my favorite features
Suggested Improvements
Mercury should have given the 3.8L V6 about 185HP instead of 140 HP but it fine the way it is and Mercury shoould have put some Wood Grain in the Dash but i love it the way it is

1995 Mercury Sable 4-Dr GS Sedan

1995 Mercury Sable 4 Dr GS Sedan
Review
We use the car around the city mostly. It has been a reliable form of transportation and is an excellent winter car (with front-wheel drive). It seats six passengers. It has a 3.0L EFI V6 engine and automatic overdrive transmission. The color is champagne clearcoat metallic, the interior has mocha cloth seats and floor mats, and it has deluxe cast aluminum wheels. The body is in good shape except for a side scrape/dent at the left-rear fender. The car has an AM/FM stereo radio, a cassette player, a digital clock, dual visor mirrors, and coin and cupholder trays.
Favorite Features
The car handles very easy ith its power steering and good turning radius. It has a tilt steering wheel, power driver seat, side windows, and side view mirrors. We like its large 18 cu ft trunk also.
Suggested Improvements
Fix the scrape/dent at the left rear fender.

I bought this car new in 1996 as a "leftover". It is about 10 years old now, and is as reliable as ever. I originally bought it as a commuter - competitive but more substantial than a honda/toyota and i was correct! It is a rugged dependable car that never let me down. For my first 7 years of commuting i got mid to high MPG and the 3.0 V6 was powerful enough for anyone. Now I no longer commute but it still get a respectable 20+ around town. I have put very little into it and i only replaced the battery 3 years ago only out of guilt! Before i got my truck, I used it to haul the usual home improvement items including an 8HP show blower.Ok I did break a rear stabilizer link after 6 years ($25)
Favorite Features
Very comfortable, good power, good gas mileage. Fairly roomy considering that It was originally my commuter/family car. Amazing reliability. I have the center console which gives a sport feel, and some storage space
Suggested Improvements
rear seat leg room is short, and could be a few inches more. The original radio was mediocre but i replaced it with a CD/AM/FM and it was so much better.

unreliable and slowww V6 engine
Vehicle

Review
When this car was first purchased, it only had 30k miles on it. within the first month, the car had problems with its engine and transmission, the center mirror fell off the windshield, a couple of months later the side mirror fell off as well (without any reasons it wasn't hit or anything). this car is also very sloww, has hard time driving up the hill (can't go over 15 mph even when the gas pedal is pressed hard)...i have had exact same problems as "the_amazing_al"- post 06/09/2003- the speedometer go bouncy around 70 mph, a lot of leaks everywhere, i had to put brand new starter motor...this car has been nothing but problems...
Favorite Features
big trunk, unique headlight + exterior design, easy to reach volume control, relatively smooth ride
Suggested Improvements
terrible built quality, been problems every since purchased at 30k miles, poor stereo and its sound quality, cheap feeling interior (year 2000+ models were improved)...almost everything needed to be improved...seem like new models have been.

Never again Ford

My experience with this car would have been much better had it not had so many vital systems fail (some of them more than once). I don't find it acceptable to have a car with less than 100K blow two head gaskets, need a radiator, power steering rack, lower motor mount, various intake parts, multiple brake jobs, etc. etc. etc. Give me a Honda for the rest of my days! Ford just builds a CHEAP car.

Best car I've owned
Vehicle
1995 Mercury Sable 4 Dr GS Wagon
Review
I've put 173,000 miles on this car and have never experienced any problems outside of normal maintenance. I am presently purchasing a new Sable, but the 95 still uses no oil between changes and I've experienced no other problems. I have taken good care of it and the miles are mainly highway miles. I've heard some people have experienced transmission problems, but I have not. It's a great vehicle and for the price I paid: $17,000. with a sticker price of $21,000. I could ask no more.
Favorite Features
Dependability
Suggested Improvements
This and other Ford products I've owned always seem to have speedometer problems in the winter: noisyness and indicating high speeds at normal speeds.

The last year of this sable design. The reliablility improved, although there are bad ones now and again. There are certain weak spots, and here are some 1. Water pump. These pit after time. They aren't that expensive. 2. Speedometers go a little bouncy. 3. Starter motor. Not too expensive. 4. Dark finish on exterior - hard to maintain. 5. Some wind noise, not too bad. 6. After time, can rust under wheel wells and bottom of doors. 7. After time, engine needs fuel injector cleaner to keep in top shape. Once every two months seems good.. 8. Suspension components will eventually need to be replaced.
Favorite Features
-radio controls at eye level -power seat neato -visibility excellent - finish is usually pristine for years - interior room grand -trunk huge
Suggested Improvements
Stay with 3.0 liter engine.

Had an 1989 Taurus wagon which was a lemon. Decided that lightning wouldn't strike twice so bought a 1995 Sable wagon. Since we've had the car, Ford had to replace the 3.8L engine and we had to have the transmission rebuilt. A few other items that had to be replaced are the radiator, starter, alternator, heater motor, front struts, fuel pump, speedometer, gas cover latch and air conditioning components. Ford customer service not even worth phoning. Better chance of hell freezing over than us buying another Ford!
