Hi, Zhuge: I just purchased a used 2006 Ford 500 SEL with 11,000 miles on it, and have already experienced two of the three issues that you mentioned. I also hear a grinding sound as I back out of my driveway, when I apply the brake. After reading a few other replies, I'm agreeing with the cheap-o rear brake pad response, and, I looked at my back wheel and did see way more ... Read More...

Trunk release, antenna in 2006 Mercury Montego

I recently purchased a used 06 Montego with 10k miles. I am enjoying the car but have noticed a minor problem, also noted in an earlier post. The trunk release does not always completely "let go." About 50% of the time I'll have to attempt the release 2-3 times before it works. Any solution/suggestion? Also, are there any aftermarket replacements for the dorky ... Read More...

Well - hopefully, this will be a one-shot deal, per the warranty replacement program. Seems like the factory rear brakes were stored in damp conditions, which caused the problem. I just had my done last week under warranty at about 33,000 miles. The rotors were OK, so they just turned them to clean them up and put the new pads on. Here's the warranty letter if you ... I took my 2006 Mercury Montego in for the 15,000 service[ to my mechanic] and found out that I only had 5-10% of the rear brakes left.[ The car had 16,800 miles on it by this time].I called and scheduled to have them replaced and at the same time told the dealer my concern about the rotors, their reply was that since they did not do the service they would have to look at ... Every time I see Ford 500 I feel sorry for Ford. How they could imagine that this thing could put world on the fire? It is a stretch to say though that Montegos sales have collapsed.
