Hi, Zhuge: I just purchased a used 2006 Ford 500 SEL with 11,000 miles on it, and have already experienced two of the three issues that you mentioned. I also hear a grinding sound as I back out of my driveway, when I apply the brake. After reading a few other replies, I'm agreeing with the cheap-o rear brake pad response, and, I looked at my back wheel and did see ... Read More

  • Trunk release, antenna in 2006 Mercury Montego

    Written by: abcde6 on Sep 5, 2008 1:49:27 AM

I recently purchased a used 06 Montego with 10k miles. I am enjoying the car but have noticed a minor problem, also noted in an earlier post. The trunk release does not always completely "let go." About 50% of the time I'll have to attempt the release 2-3 times before it works. Any solution/suggestion? Also, are there any aftermarket replacements for the dorky stick antenna on the car? I noticed the ... Read More

Well - hopefully, this will be a one-shot deal, per the warranty replacement program. Seems like the factory rear brakes were stored in damp conditions, which caused the problem. I just had my done last week under warranty at about 33,000 miles. The rotors were OK, so they just turned them to clean them up and put the new pads on. Here's the warranty letter if you need it. Every time I see Ford 500 I feel sorry for Ford. How they could imagine that this thing could put world on the fire? It is a stretch to say though that Montegos sales have collapsed. You can say the same about 500. It has nothing to do with Mercury as a marque. • 2006 Mercury Montego Premier $23,000 OTD in Louisiana

Written by: seafire on Nov 26, 2006 11:12:32 PM

For anybody's reference. I bought a 2006 Mercury Montego Premier last month in October near New Orleans area dealership for $23,000 out the door which included Tax, Title, and License. The only option was reverse sensing. After I brought the car, a few weeks later, I've notice an additional $1,000 cash discount incentive on Mercury website in Nov. So maybe, the dealer may take out another grand. Their selling price depends ... Read More

I was only referring to the Five Hundred price to Montego. Thought Homelink was some kind of calling device for emergencies. My point is, for this particular sedan you might save yourself some $$$ if you buy the 2006 SE while supplies, which I think are in numbers, and rebates last. As a family man, affordability, ergonomic, and safety is exactly what I and my family needs.

Homelink has nothing at all to do with phones, cellular or otherwise. It is a transmitter to open garage doors, gates, and such. You can buy an aftermarket rear view mirror with Homelink, a compass, and automatic dimming. I certainly agree that cloth is best in warm seasons, although cooled leatrher seats (offered on several Ford and GM vehicles as well as some foreign brands) may be better, since the leather ... In the brochure it says you get $1,000 Lincoln Mercury Owner Loyalty AND 0% APR financing until 8/31/06. Perhaps I can answer your questions, since I bought a Malibu Maxx instead of a Five Hundred, Montego, or Freestyle (I also considered the Chrysler 300, the Dodge Magnum, the Toyota Tacoma, and the Ford Explorer), and the Maxx replaced my 2002 Mercury Mountaineer). Has anyone heard anything on whether Ford/Mercury will be increasing the warranty on their upcoming models. Even though I've been a faithful Ford/Mercury buyer in the past, I'm wondering how much longer they can continue to offer 3 years/36,000 program. It looks like they have hit the nail on the head as far as style in the 500/Montego, but I really think they need to increase the coverage to stay in ... Read More

Right now there is no CVT for Fords' approx: 245hp Duratec 35 engine (which is also not available yet). The CVT, for the recently reportedly improved Duratec 30 with 200hp & 200lbs of torque, can handle no more than 220lbs of torque. The Duratec 35, obviously exceeds that torque range, sure the six speed automatic wil mate up fine but is only offered for FWD. So when the Duratec 35 debuts ... Read More
