I just had this TSB (transmission fix/replace) done on my 2006 Mercury Milan Premier V6, 1.5 weeks prior to warranty end. The dealer service wouldn't do it until the car hit 20K as per TSB. I didn't know it was transmission related until now. When I brought it in a few weeks ago I only had 19800 and they just reset the computer and said bring back after 20K. Problem started ... Ford is actively combining Ford and Lincoln/Mercury dealers (and shutting down others). They've shut down or combined over 500 since 2006 and 150 this year alone. As long as the combined dealers are good I don't see a big problem. They can still have a separate area or building for Lincoln but business wise it doesn't force them to sink or swim on L/M sales alone. It will also help that ... Read More
The other factor is not all cities are equal in terms of how one can drive. If "city" means downtown Chicago or NY, that is quite different from "city" when it means, say, Des Moines.
You must have the I4 - a lot (if not all) of the folks reporting 17 mpg have the V6. As for air filters - if yours is blocked then changing it will increase fuel economy. Some folks opt for a K&N or similar filter as opposed to the paper filters, but without a corresponding exhaust change it probably won't increase your fuel economy. Paper filters work fine as long as ... Read More
Wow I can't believe that a lot of you are only getting around 17 miles per gallon! I just purchased my Milan with 26,000 miles on it and have been getting on average about 24 miles per gallon and that is all city miles; I now have around 33,000 on it. Is it true that changing your air filter will help you get better mileage?? These days I will try anything ... Read More

By Bill Koenig Feb. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Ford Motor Co.'s Mercury, whose sales have dwindled to less than a third of their 1978 peak, has a ``changing'' role as the automaker concentrates more on its Ford and Lincoln brands, the company's marketing chief said. ``Its role is changing, but we're not going to compromise Mercury,'' Group Vice President Jim Farley said yesterday in a brief interview at the Chicago Auto Show. ... Monday, February 11, 2008 TOM KRISHER / AP Auto Writer SAN FRANCISCO -- Ford Motor Co. executives won't guarantee that the Mercury brand will be around forever, but they told a group of dealers Sunday that new Mercury products are coming. Ford's leaders have said they expect the Lincoln luxury brand to command higher sales volume than Mercury in the future. But some dealers are wary about the company's plan for ... Read More
My right hand side mirror on my 2006 Lincoln Zephyr collided with an immobile object :) albeit at a very low speed. I am posting here because I suspect the Milan/Fusion employ a similar mirror design. The plastic mirror assembly has sheared off - the motor, glass and chrome pieces are intact. I wonder if I can replace as a DIY project - how easy it it to remove the door ... Read More
Richard Truett Automotive News October 15, 2007 - 4:14 pm ET Click Here! DETROIT -- R.I.P. Mercury? Not yet. Ford Motor Co. CEO Alan Mulally said today that the struggling division will not be killed. In a meeting with reporters at a factory outside Detroit, here’s what Mulally said when asked if Mercury has a future. “Absolutely. It’s doing well. We’ve got a great set of products in Mercury. I have a 2006 Merc Milan Premier V-6, bought Oct. 2006. The in town mileage is horrible! 14-17 mpg. I get 25 mpg highway. The dealer tells me it is because I take short trips. I've never had a car with this bad mileage. I don't lead foot it and drive reasonably. Anyone else with this issue? Our 2007 SEL AWD V-6 Fusion, bought Dec. 4, 2006, only get 14.8 mpg ... Read More

So many things to respond to....... Milans are simply a different trim level Fusion. Think of it as a Fusion M. Ford is selling around 17K Fusions and Milans per month and 40% of those are conquest sales (buyers who switch to a Fusion/Milan from a non-Ford brand). These are former Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Saturn, etc. drivers. Ford just took top honors in JD Power Initial Quality Survey. Mercury was ... Read More
I own a 2006 Mercury Milan Premier with the 3.0L V6. I drove back from the Madison area to Oshkosh a couple weeks ago. Before I left, I filled up the tank and immediately reset my trip computer after filling up. The car had 12,000 miles on it. According to the trip computer, the trip was 97 miles long, I averaged 62 MPH, and I averaged 32.2 MPG. On the divided ... Read More

Every time I see Ford 500 I feel sorry for Ford. How they could imagine that this thing could put world on the fire? It is a stretch to say though that Montegos sales have collapsed. You can say the same about 500. It has nothing to do with Mercury as a marque. What else do you expect in NYC traffic. I get 10-12mpg in my I4 99 Contour driving around brooklyn. I think the contour is rated at 23mpg in City, year right. I guess they didn't figure into account NYC traffic.
You seem to know quite a bit about the Ford/Mercury audio systems - Here's my question - I have a 2006 Mercury Milan I-4 Premier with the standard CD/MP3 Radio. A friend of mine has an "Audiophile" stereo Ford part number: 6H6Z-18806-AA which was taken out of an 06' Lincoln Zephyr to make room for an aftermarket Nav System. I'm sure it will fit with no problem but will it work? ... Read More
Unfortunately, that's the cheap kind of traction control that give some problems. Imagine you waiting to get onto a street on wet pavement quickly and the TC sapping power... Not quite. Ford's new system, which is in the Fusion, uses the vehicle's PCM to control traction wheras the "cheap" systems you are referring to use a separate sensor and/or processor which can be slow and annoying to live with. I would prefer a Mercury Milan over a Toyota Camry based on my personal experience with a NEW Toyota. My 2006 Toyota Sienna LE had a 2nd row bucket seat installed wrong at the factory and it could not be removed or moved to the alternate position because of this defect.
Right bv050506, because nobody sees Camrys as old fart cars either. The Milan has a V-6 mated with a 6 speed transmission that performs nicely. So I'm not sure what you are getting at with the weak engine remark. Maybe you are talking about the 4-cyl model, but then Camry has a pretty weak 4-cyl base model too. And gas mileage is almost identicle when you compare apples to apples. What ... Read More
I've had 3 Sables, 1996, 1999, 2003, the Milan gets worse overall mpg than they did. This is a new car design, marketed against Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Why didn't Ford try to equal or beat them on gas mpg? It must be the ridiculously wide turning circle causing this low city mpg, you can't parallel park in one try and you can't do a U turn on most NYC ... Read More

Um Dude: calidave, "Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan" #2744, 6 Jan 2006 11:02 am You specifically say it might be false advertising in CA and that you know a DA. IMHO, that's rabble rousing. Personally, I could care less about Ipod intergration. I don't have one and don't want one unless NPR/PRI starts podcasting all their shows. I guess that doesn't make me a Dude. Peace and Out
When I said, Finally somebody did a review on the 2006 Mercury Milan. I wasn't attacking you. I've seen about 5-12 reviews of the Fusion. I've only seen 1 review of the Milan and that's it so far. Pricing was released for the Mercury Milan, with $18,995 for the 4 cylinder and $21,995 for the 6 cylinder. Those prices are only slightly above the Fusion, and it still keeps the prices well below other midsize sedans. Ford says 0-60 acceleration times for the Fusion/Milan will be 8.5 seconds.
