Purchased new, have 169,000 miles. Replaced all four brake pads at 167,000. Replaced a/c comp at 148,000. No other cost except tires, oil changes, and transmission service. Have traveled on many long trips. Gas mileage from 23.8-to 25.0. I have the handling package with the 3.55 gear, dual exhaust, 16 inch rims. Mileage is better at below 70 MPH. My speed is 70+. This is my third panther body vehicle.

Favorite Features

Hauls six people, big trunk, wide track stability, V8 and sharp looks.

Suggested Improvements

Cupholders, steering wheel radio controls.

Drove it from south Florida to North Carolina and averaged 29 mpg around 65 mph! Outstanding! A big comfortable highway cruiser for our occasional road trips. I've since added dual exhaust, rear air shocks and replaced those awful plastic wheel covers with the cast aluminum laced wheels. Will also have to replace the original intake manifold (with plastic coolant passages) before our next trip. Only design flaws are radio and heater controls not in easy reach, wide floor sill under doors makes exiting the car a little clumsy. Power windows are getting slow, common for Fords.

Favorite Features

Big big big! A living room on wheels made for the Interstate. Decent mileage at moderate speeds. Quiet and comfortable for the long haul.

Suggested Improvements

This car's days are numbered with $4/gal gas, so Ford isn't going to put a lot of effort into mods here. Maybe make the steering less sensitive to road crown angle - more caster in front end to track stronger.

Review

Purchased this brand new. Excellent car. No breakdowns in over 8 years. All I did was routine maintenance. The coolant temperature sensor went bad 3 years ago, but everything still works fine. Surviving 8 Michigan winters with no rust, and the original exhaust system still in great shape is a miracle. If gas weren't so high I'd be buying another one. I do mostly city driving, but my car still gets great mileage on the highway. It's like driving in the safety of a tank with a sofa inside.

Favorite Features

The side light when the blinkers are on. Roomy trunk. Can carry a lot of things that won't fit in most cars; ladders, 2X4's, exterior doors etc. ( I don't have a truck).

Suggested Improvements

A lot of times in the wet weather, water will splash up into the engine compartment, and cause the belt to slip, lowering the voltage (dim lights etc.).

Review

This car has been the best in reliability of any cars I've owned. I have had the car for 8 years and never had to put a dime into it. It still looks and runs great. The gas mileage around town is about 18 miles a gallon and about 22 on long drives. It would be great for older folks who can't get in smaller cars.

Favorite Features

This car drives smooth and takes bumps and irregularities int he road well. I purchased the heavy duty suspension.

Suggested Improvements

The only improvements would be the windshield wipers. They are noises and need to be changed frequently.

This has been a reliable and comfortable car. I am a handicapped person and appreciate the ease of entrance and exit with the spacious front floor, and accessible power seat controls.

Favorite Features

Comfortable ride and good gasoline economy.

Suggested Improvements

The power steering is rather touchy. I would prefer more "road feel," but that may just be a personal preference.

Review

Ancient design. For a car this large interior space is disappointing, Chrysler's cab forward design makes offers far more interior space, roomy in front seat but back seat leg room is disappointing. Car is not very nimble. But suspension is not mushy like some cars in this class, body roll not excessive. Huge trunk. Easy to get in and out. Pretty good acceleration.Car has been very reliable but steering wheel locked up and had to be towed to shop. Okay gas mileage for such a big car. Exterior dimensions of car seem excessive, not as bad as the boats of the 1970's but still a very large car.Boring style. Not much fun to drive.

Favorite Features

Huge trunk great for carrying golf clubs.Roomy in front seat.Reliable.Good highway cruiser for long trips.

Suggested Improvements

Downsize car, what is the point of such a large exterior and yet an interior smaller than you might expect.Even my mother doesn't have enough leg room in back and she is only 5'5".Not a very nimble car for around town.

Review

This car is so good, it's like not owning a Ford. After 70,000 miles, exactly zero dollars and zero cents in unscheduled maintenance. Incredible value especially as a used car. High altitude seems to hurt the performance inordinately, but maybe it's just me. A Toyota should be so reliable. Very large trunk is a little oddly shaped. This was done to fix exploding gas tank. Still, I wish they would do another work-around to bring back true "three body trunk" capability. Easily the best kept secret in the auto world.

Favorite Features

Value. Reliability. Comfort. Gas mileage (that's right Gas Mileage).

Suggested Improvements

1. Turn Ford motor company over to the person responsible for this car. 2. Huge, massive moon roof. 3. Station Wagon. 4. Station Wagon with moon roof. 5. Specialty car with full-on "straight-outta Compton" trim. 6. built in ski bag. 7.Bring back the huge gas tank with 400 mi range.

Review

This is a marvelous car...my fourth Panther platform Ford. The car has so many aftermarket performance parts that it is hard to believe. There is actually a small performance cult that has grown up around them Mine has dual exhaust, with Dynaflows and an X-pipe, as well as Kumho A/S 795 tires (stock Michelins are a joke). I added a Superchips powertuner. I probably have about 260HP as of now and still get over 25 mpg/highway. Why people complain about the mileage on these cars baffles me...if you want a Honda Civic, go buy one! This car weighs 4,000 pounds. Addco sway bars and Bilstein shocks make the car handle dead flat. There is a reason why police use these cars (Ford CV version).

Favorite Features

Smooth power, great handling (when modified. Huge trunk, great visibility. THEY ARE CHEAP WHEN YOU BUY THEM USED! Tremendous number of aftermarket performance parts. Mileage and gobs of power and torque. Quick and nimble. A real stealth ride.

Suggested Improvements

Cup holders are awful. Rear view mirror obscures front view. Stock Michelins are terrible, resulting in awful traction and handling; replace with Kumhos. Stock shocks are awful. Rear sway bar inadequate. Headlight lenses can leak and fog easily. Put a center console and floor shift on all LS models.

Review

I've owned many cars in my lifetime and this is the best one I've ever had. Never had any mechanical problems. Gas mileage at 20 mpg for a V8 is unbelievable. Comfortable ride with spacious interior. Style hasn't changed much over the years. I don't think they can improve on it!

Favorite Features

Digital speedometer, electric seats, compass, radio. Excellent visability, comfortable ride.

Suggested Improvements

Back seat is not as roomy as other cars I've owned. For the size of the vehicle, this was surprising to me. Also, need cup holders in back seat.

Review

I bought this car in May of 2006 for my wife, Being 22 years old I was ify about buying whats classified as an elderly persons car, but it is great. It had 51,000 miles on it when we bought it and within 2 weeks of owning it we went on a trip from souther florida (home) to Vermont to visit family. With gas at about $3 a gallon it only cost us about $200 to drive from florida to Vermont. It was extremely comfortable and we were albe to fit everything in the trunk! In the trunk we had 3 medium suitcases, 2 large suitcases, 4 fishing poles, 3 tacle boxes, 6 person tent, 2 sleeping bags, playpen and stoller. The Drive was comfortable and I'd recommend this car to anyone, simply awesome!

Favorite Features

The trunk space, gas mileage, acceleration.

Suggested Improvements

maybe a posi rear end? Its no fun burning out with one tire ;)
