Great car
Vehicle
1996 Mercury Grand Marquis 4 Dr GS Sedan
Review
Had the car for 7 years and no major problems. Only thing was BOTH side view mirrors went out at the same time. Quite costly to replace.
Favorite Features
I love the legroom for the driver. And the heated side mirrors. And the large trunk.
Suggested Improvements
Maybe some extra legroom in the back seat.

A "solid" car
Vehicle
1996 Mercury Grand Marquis 4 Dr LS Sedan
Review
"Solid" because it has meet / exceeded exxpectations. I bought this car in 9/2002 with ~ 70K on it and for $6300. Within the following two months, put in a CD player (a must!), 4 new tires, a tuneup, and a battery (a little over $1000 total). And it hasn't disappointed yet. Although I've never had to do this with previous vehicles (maybe because of GM's big engine size), I did have to make it a habit to put in a bottle of Heet with each tank in the winter to counter hard-starting probs.
Favorite Features
Size of trunk and passenger compartment- - I can get three car seats in the backseat-- an accomodation not possible in modern, Euro / Asian- inspired "family sedans."
Suggested Improvements
Crumby mileage in town (despite tune up). More power in stock engine (190 HP... c'mon... it's a V8 afterall).

The big hauler
Vehicle
1996 Mercury Grand Marquis 4 Dr GS Sedan
Review
This is great tow vehicle and hauls 4000 lbs easily. Highway mileage is 26 mpg on Phila.-Boston trips. Running around home mileage is about 17mpg. Comfortable and quiet.
Favorite Features
Large trunk. Self levelling suspension keeps headlights aimed even with big loads. Good traction and handling in snow.
Suggested Improvements
Better steering feedback, it's too light. 2 inches more leg room in back seats.
Excellent vehicle for the american road
Vehicle
1996 Mercury Grand Marquis 4 Dr LS Sedan
Review
In simply two words the car is "Bullet proof". Purchased used with 56K, drove it 90K on one set of tires with no need for wheel alignments and tire rotation. Acceleration is excellent and it's quiet, roomy and comfortable. Now at 183K miles it looks and runs like a new car. You would never know that it has high miles on it. I average 21.9 MPG in combo driving and it can take a beating, being driven 100 miles every day to commute. Recently took it on a road trip 3000 miles in 4 days and it ran flawlessly at around 26.5 MPG.
Favorite Features
Smooth and powerful acceleration, quiet comfortable ride, large trunk and great gas mileage for a 2 ton car that cruises effortlessly down the highway.
Suggested Improvements
Could use some wind noise reduction around the door seals at upper highway speeds (75+). Otherwise nothing

Review
Love this car. Absolutely no maintenance other than normal We followed the more stringent maintenance religiously, particularly 30000 and 50000 suggestions. Replaced tires and battery once and always used premium fuel.
Favorite Features
trunk space; adjustable lumbar seats; passing power; reliability
Suggested Improvements
ABSOLUTELY- remove the portion of the front bumper that goes under bumper area to cover a part of the car. It's all fiberglass, cracks easily and is a fortune to replace because it's all one piece with the bumper...we think this is "planned obsolescence."

Mercury Marquis Luxury Car
Vehicle
1996 Mercury Grand Marquis 4 Dr LS Sedan
Review
I loved my Lincoln Town Car I bought in 1989 and was confident the baby Lincoln (my marquis) would be as good. I am comfortable with it an there has been a few mechanical and electrical issues, but overall, I love it. Only spent $2,883.95 on maintenance/repairs since acquiring it in March, 1997. The damn catalytic converter croaked and it would cost $2000 to repair it. The hell with that!
Favorite Features
Like the size and ride. Good gas mileage for size. Tremendous size trunk. Keyless entry featire is neat!
Suggested Improvements
Keep bumping my knees upon entry, but that's my only complaint.
Great Car

Review
I have been very satisfied with this car. I get just as good gas mileage as my sister's 6 cylinder, but I have much more power and room. The insurance on this car is so low! I sustained very little damage when I was struck from behind by another car. The fuel shutoff worked just like it was supposed to work.
Favorite Features
I love the keyless entry and the keypad.
Suggested Improvements
I have had to replace three of the power windows. Please improve the motors for the window. Two vanity mirrors would be great.
Mercury Grand Marquis - Experiences
Vehicle
1996 Mercury Grand Marquis 4 Dr LS Sedan
Review
Generally, this car has been very, very dependable and comfortable to ride on a daily basis. The down side is on a long trip, the seats do not give as much support as they should, resulting in back-aches. The car is very long, and the suspension is rather "floppy" in that it is "swooshy", and not tight like a more sporty model. The turning radius is not tight.
Favorite Features
The general comfort with daily driving, and its dependability and the horsepower enabling quick power and strong passing strengths.
Suggested Improvements
The seats could use some more support. The seats feel like the springs have worn out.
