I know the older Ford products are known for transmission troubles. A friend has a 1994 Cougar V6 that had its transmission rebuilt 2 times within its first 30K miles. Right now, the car has about 70K miles on it (he doesn't drive alot), and the tranny still shifts very sloppily and bulks at going into reverse.
