One Fun Car

1993 Mercury Capri 2 Dr XR2 Turbo Convertible
Review
The Mercury Capri XR2 is a quick, nimble, and most of all a fun car to drive! A major up and down side to the Capri is that there is/was not many of them on the road so finding parts can be a problem. After 150,000 miles the engine, transmission, and turbo are still in great shape! (Although the clutch was replaced at 135,000 Miles) Watch for cracked or distorted rear windows on the soft top as they can be expensive to replace. Some electrical system problems can arise (Blower motor, MAF, headlight motors) Rubber gear shift linkages are prone to wear at or around 100,000 miles. (5 speed) Keep in mind that this is a sports car with McPherson strut up front and it will ride like a tank!
Favorite Features
Turbo, close ratio 5 speed, cornering abilities, open top, price, mpg, rare, powertrain reliability, flip up headlights, fun to drive, money left in your wallet for modifications!
Suggested Improvements
The rario is a joke, A/C is terrible (But its an open top!) 5th gear could be a bit wider (High RPM at freeway speeds) Get some sticky tires to enjoy the preformance! Bump up the boost PSI a bit (12 to 14 PSI) When buying parts ask for Mazda 323 GT as many are the same with different prices!

I bought this car through Quality Auto (Ocala, FL) after my Saturn SL2 was totalled in an accident. I have had some minor wiring issues with the car (due mostly to the previous owner's installation of a premium sound system, speakers, et al.). Otherwise, this car has been great in performance and reliability. I have extreme difficulty in finding parts/accessories as Ford no longer manufactures said parts. --tjb---
Favorite Features
I love the easy-to-use top. It's not too heavy and can be put up or down by one person quickly. (Sudden Florida rain showers helped me find that out!)
Suggested Improvements
Why have the backseat release locked by the key? That's annoying. (The top I can understand ... that's a safety measure.)

Review
I bought this little convertible used in '97 with about 45K mi.. The dealer was less than reputable not advising the car had been in a wreck . I am the 2nd owner; the 1st 3 yrs the vehicle was completely trouble free. Body construction a bit flimsy, dents when leaned on too hard, but handling, pick up, comfort and maintenance are all worth overlooking this flaw. Then there's the gas mileage-30+ mpg in city traffic and who knows what on the highway-its always great! Oil, Filter, Tires and the usual maintenance and this is a great little car. I've been more than pleasantly surprised!
Favorite Features
Even though it's a manual convertible- it's a snap for one (female) to handle
Suggested Improvements
Stronger body construction

Review
Bought this from a dealer off of Ebay about a year ago. Its been a great little car, and cost about the same as my first car (Opel GT) 20 years ago. Motor/tranny is solid, parts aren't too hard to come by, other than body specific things. Economical top-down fun.
Favorite Features
Convertible, removeable hardtop, great gas mileage, backseat for the kid,low entry price.
Suggested Improvements
Nothing, really. More attractive wheels, leather seating, nothing that can't be upgraded on your own.
