Cadillac XLR vs. Mercedes-Benz SL
Re: Thanks, but I dont mean S Class [merc1]
What this has to do is with you trashing Cadillac, when in fact the ratings (JD Powers) reflect that owners/buyers believe they are as good as Mercedes. Mercedes has zero advantage regarding quality and in some cases places behind Cadillac (or other GM brand). I will admit that neither brand comes close to the Japanese competitors. It is interesting that for ... Read More...

speed shift issue with SL55 AMG
I just recently bought a 2006 SL 55 AMG. I know my question might be out of context to the topic at hand , however I will try just in case. The problem has to do with the manumatic -speed shifting . This car has 5 speed and 3 settings , comfort , sport , and ,manual . the manual can be done by pressing buttons on the back of the steering wheel or by tipping the shifter to the left ... Re: 2005 MB SL500 [bosco42]
There are plenty of good deals out there. I just traded in my 04 SL500 for $67500 and got the 2006 SL500 for $11k off window (because 07 is coming early). I think the reason for the softness in the market is that there just are not a lot of buyers for this niche and interest rates are rising. The Porsche is really for a different buyer. My wife and I wanted to change this ... Read More...
Re: Mercedes-Benz SLK350 a real delight at 18Km [arpdog]
Hi arpdog, I drove my 2006 MB Slk350 with Amg Package during the winter in the mountains of Germany. I was very suprised how well it handled in all that snow on frozen roads. It would have driven even better with all season or winter tires but it still drove very well. I did the European delivery program which I fully recommend to anyone buying a mercedes. I was in Europe ... Read More...

Re: an SL 65 [arkitect]
Sorry, don't have a dog. But I'm glad to see that you are putting your skills to work. As it turns out, my hometown Acura / Mercedes dealer did have an SL65. Also had a nice cherry red SLK55 and a few other AMG models. But guess what the owner of the dealership just picked up for himself? A 2006 Speed Yellow Porsche Cayman. And to think they gave me friendly grief when I ... Read More...
Re: Needed new changes for 2006. [habitat1]
I canceled my order for an SLK 350 after the car arrived with paint damage (from transport, or from the factory - was never determined). I had ordered the 6-speed, because I didn't enjoy my test drive in the 7-spd auto and was worried about its complexity. In fact, the specific car I drove was sent back to the factory because it didn't shift properly. After reading ... Read More...
Re: Needed new changes for 2006. [habitat1]
I agree, Mercedes should at the very least consider a manual for the SLK55, C55 and maybe even the CLK55. I can't see much of a market for a manual in any of the AMG cars, those models are too biased towards luxury for a manual, imo. M Read More...
Re: Lease Prices in CA [bebe3]
I've never leased, so can't help you there. But the SLK is offered through the European Delivery program for 7% off MSRP. That's at least a good starting point for negotiations. If a dealer has the car you want in stock, I suggest you "threaten" to go ED unless he makes it worth your while to buy the stock car. I would not tell the dealer you need to do a deal by the 17th ... Read More...
2006 SLK 350, the first 24 hours
After driving many different convertible models by various badges, my wife fell in "lust" with the SLK 350 which was delivered the prior day to the local MB dealer. After paying full MSRP, it was in our garage. Since this is our first Mercedes, we weren't (still are not) sure what to expect. The next morning, she fired it up to go to work and a "FAULTY ESP" message appeared ... Read More...
Re: Needed new changes for 2006. [mbd]
I'll take: Bright yellow, to help ease the pain of having traded my Spa Yellow S2000 last year. However, I can live with Mercedes silver / grey palatte. I agree on the sport suspension. It went from a couple of hundred bucks to being only available in a $4,000 insanely priced cosmetic package. But absolutely most of all, a 6-speed short throw manual transmission ... Read More...
