2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class Road Test Ratings

Flawless fit and finish reaffirm that this tall wagon is a true Mercedes-Benz, loaded with luxury features and comfortable seating for six passengers.

Engine performance is excellent. Handling is better than many wagons, but sometimes the R's taller profile is evident.

The seats are spacious, but a bit firmer than most. Ride is smooth and quiet, even at high speed.

Some of the controls are hard to figure out, but the feature content is high. The third row seats are spacious and fold into the floor when not needed. The R-class can hold six adults in comfort. The extra-long rear doors are difficult to enter in some parking spaces.

The outside is styled a bit awkwardly, and the inside is business-like. Materials and fit/finish are first-rate.
