Beauty is only skin deep. Prototype woes

2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class CLS500 4dr Sedan (5.0L 8cyl 7A)
Review
Very disappointed with quality and road reliability. Has me seriously questioning ever owning a Mercedes again. True, looks and sumptuous cabin turn heads. Very comfortable on long cruises, even in back seat. Exceptional responsiveness. A blast to drive, but many miles have been logged going back 20+ times for maintenance, electronics, accessories, suspension and wheel repair in 36 months. Ball joints should outlast 70000 miles. Brake pad sensors disconnected to keep static off the radio when braking. Dry and wet road handling is fabulous, but just a dusting of snow incapacitates it. Simple items like cup holders failed and finishes are peeling. Sadly, like the Mona Lisa with big red zit.
Favorite Features
Incredible integration of eye-catching looks, handling, acceleration and cabin comfort exceed expectations. The car responds like its an extension of your thoughts. The exterior styling is nothing short of breathtaking and always elicits street comments. Interior lighting creates warm atmosphere.
Suggested Improvements
With so many squirrely glitches in sensors and electronics, it's hard tell what's real and what's just another bad circuit. Suspension has zero durability and can't handle even small highway bumps or holes. Though driving it elicits excitement, much of it is wasted worrying what will fail next.

Stylish Sedan
Vehicle
2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class CLS500 4dr Sedan (5.0L 8cyl 7A)
Review
Have owned the CLS500 for almost 3 years and has been everything i have expected - great sedan for family of 4 with school aged kids - a lot of head turning looks with this car - just enough truck space for active family - only complaint is the challenges in accessing a drive up ATM through the smallish side window - every facet of this car speaks quality
Favorite Features
Exterior Styling, interior wood appointments
Suggested Improvements
Cup holder design could be improved with better quality materials -

I have had the opportunity to own and drive this car for an entire year now. Overall the experience has been enjoyable. I have owned Mercedes and BMWs in the past and while this car is marketed as a combination of a sedan and a coupe, I would submit that it also delivers a combination between a BMW and a Mercedes. The car performs very well, it manages its multiple personality disorder very well and is able stay under the radar as a chameleon transforming from executive luxury during the week in the employee parking lot to sporty/sexy transportation for a Saturday night out in New York City.
Favorite Features
Style, performance, comfort, multiple personality & handling.
Suggested Improvements
If you are a smoker and it is raining, a small crack in the windows to allow your smoke to sneak out of the car opens way to downpours of water sliding off the roof right into the car (no ridge to prevent this) Visibility when turning is a bit cumbersome since the side mirrors in directl

Great car to drive if you can afford it. Hope it last like a Benz should. This is for the buyer that likes to drive a car for 5 years plus.
Favorite Features
Ride with excellent power.
Suggested Improvements
The rear of the car needs some design improvements. Merceds should include maintenance at the price you pay. Like BMW! Don't nickle and dime the customer.

CLS 500
Vehicle

This car is unbeleivably fast and extremely fun to drive. I've owned a Lexus LS 430 and this car is superior to the 430. Its aerodynamic design is absolutely gorgeous. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone.
Favorite Features
The body style, the ride, the options and design of the cockpit.
Suggested Improvements
The navigation system could be a little more user friendly. Its easy to work but the Lexus navigation system is al ot easier to use.

This is a great car! Styling is beautiful and the performance is outstanding. I had an '03 Viper prior and this car is very close in performance and much better in size, comfort, and driveability. This is the best 4 door I've owned.
Favorite Features
The engine! One bad boy!
Suggested Improvements
Rear seat room is tight, but who really cares about the passenger anyway?

CLS 55
Vehicle
2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class CLS55 AMG 4dr Sedan (5.4L 8cyl S/C 5A)
Review
The car is unbelievable. I have driven Aston Martins, Porsches and many other sports cars before this one and this is second to none of them. The trunk is large for golf clubs and luggage so you can actually drive this car out of town, what a novel idea. The power is tremendous and the CLS handles very well compared to all the other mercedes available.
Favorite Features
Distronic, parktronic, keyless go
Suggested Improvements
Trim on the inside of the doors. That is the only boring thing about the car. Maybe a heated steering wheel. Lighter needs to be out of the ashtray for cell phones and it needs to work when the car is not on.

It has been a great experience thus far. I have had to hang on tightly when occasionally my foot gets too heavy. I didn't expect the engine performance and its been a pleasant surprise. The control is more complex than it has to be (how many menus just to change the light?) But after its all together easy to work with and maintain. Its only been a month so we'll see if it lives up to the Mercedes reputation for quality.
Favorite Features
V8 with plenty of extra RPMS. Classic body style.
Suggested Improvements
More leg room in rear. (I know it was a coupe and now a sedan, but is 4 inches much to ask for?) Too many controls on steering column. Lexus seems to be able to do with two switches what others need four to do. Maybe a little market research on ergonomics?

Love the looks of the vehicle and the attention it gets but not so keen on the ride. Don't know if I would have made the purchase had I known the transmission and ride would be so "less than desirable".
Favorite Features
The looks!
Suggested Improvements
Improve the transmission and ride.
