Summary

What Edmunds.com says

A stylish, if expensive, melding of comfort and performance suitable for all but the most serious driving enthusiasts.

Pros

Solid chassis, composed ride, comfortable front seats, fast power top operation in Cabriolet.

Cons

High price, some subpar plastic trim, a few hard-to-use controls.

What's New for 2005

This year the CLK's standard eight-speaker Bose audio system is scrapped in favor of a 10-speaker Harman Kardon unit, while the navigation system is now DVD-based. The 320 model gets upgraded standard wheels, and offers a lighting package with foglights that illuminate with the turn signals, or when the steering wheel is turned. The 500's five-speed automatic is replaced with a new seven-speed unit with steering wheel shift controls. Also, ventilated front seats are now optional. The complimentary scheduled maintenance program has been dropped for 2005.

First I would like to say that I love this vehicle. However, I am having one tremendous problem. My tires are leaking air randomly, about every 2 to 3 weeks, to the point of being flat. I replaced the tires 18 months ago but I am still having this problem even more often. I've taken the car to the tire dealer at least half a dozen times and he has sealed the rims but told me the chrome on the AMG rims is bubbling inside the bead rim and is causing the leaks. I don't know if he is just trying to sell me new rims or what the deal is. Anyone else having this problem?

Review

I purchased my CLK 55 AMG convertible is Southampton NY. The car is fast, handles very well and is terrible on gas. (but I knew that from the start) The interior could use some work, especially the rear seats (just make it a 2 seater) Navigation system is onpoint, sound system is clean but confusing. (still havent figured out how to change the clock time) I do get compliments on the car evertime I leave the driveway.

Favorite Features

Smooth ride, and perfect for summertime driving with the top down. I love how this car handles.

Suggested Improvements

How about a roll bar. The SL includes them standard, but not this car. The interior can use some work. The seatbelt assist is annoying.

This car is everything I'd hoped it was. Very powerful and responsive V-8 not only delivers but is comfortable to drive. I'm 6'0" 205lbs and my only comfort issue is that it sits so low that it's a bit difficult to get in and out of

Review

I have been driving this feat of engineering for 1 month waiting for the winter to die so I can drop the top. Yesterday was just warm enough. What a thrill! I felt like a million bucks. Everything is so automatic and intuitive. Everything works exactly as designed. Being a designer i appreciate the complexity while being simple. the only engineering that may need work is the audio system controls which are a bit confusing. Hopefully, God willing, I will never own a lesser vehicle.

Favorite Features

Power to spare and incredible handling for a convertible. Favorite thing is the amazing engine and transmission. The Harmon Kardon stereo is fabulous except for a rattle at high volume in the driver door that I will attempt to fix under warranty. Love the incredible quality paint finish.

Suggested Improvements

Don't care for the center console. The top half is dedicated to the phone cradle which is not needed these days. I need a good space for 2 pair sunglasses. I think the exterior with top up is too similar to the Sebring. A perforated fender design and another AMG badge on side would improve exterior
