Used MBs - Mileage & Service Record
I'm looking at purchasing a used MB 2002 C320 from a local Hertz Used Cars dealer. It has 27,000 miles on it so it's still under warranty. I live in the Pacific Northwest and a friend mentioned that I should be careful to find out if this car came from Canada where it's "okay" to roll back mileage on the odometer. (I don't really believe this, of course, but I still want ... Read More...
2002 C-240 High Mileage report
Hi all, It has been a while, but I thought I would chime in with a report on my 2002 C-240. My 2002 C-240 is just about to roll over the 70,000 mile mark. It has been a great highway car that I use all the time for business travel. However there have been problems, but not so many I am upset. Problems: - Seemingly chronic problem of going through front ball joints. They were ... Read More...

Re: SUVs and sales. All true for Audi, BMW and Jaguar, but not Mercedes. Mercedes does the impossible by posting all of their sales gains on their car, almost across the board. The C, E, S, and CLK were up 3.1, 30.7, 8.6 and 11.5 percent respectively for 2003 vs 2002. If only they'd get the SUV thing right! M Read More...
Brakes, Windshields and wipers
I think the black plastic thing is to keep the wiper blade firmly pressed against the glass while driving at high speeds. I changed my wiper blades once already and I tried to find aftermarket blades that would work, but there is another "gotcha" besides that black plastic thing. If you look closely the blades are actually curved in both dimensions. This makes ... Read More...
satellite radio
I would like to get a satellite radio (xm, sirius) for my 2002 C320, which, you would think would be a no-brainer since the equipment is 1/2 way there with the tele-aid. Has anyone looked into this? I would like to stick with Mercedes equipment. I read that the 04's will be offered with Sirius, but I don't think I'll be buying a new one to get the sat. radio unfortunately. ... Read More...
Lexus IS 300 vs. Mercedes C230 kompressor sedan
I currently have a 2002 Lexus IS300 sedan and love the power, handling, etc. but I'm one who couldn't settle for the same car for years. I test drove a Mercedes C230 kompressor sedan today. I like the Benz for the features but it doesn't have the IS's power & handling. On the other hand the Benz is a Benz, I think it looks better but the price can cost more than the ... Read More...
buzzsaw
I think the C class reliability has improved somewhat. The first year had some teething pains that affected a large number of cars (the memory-seat/key thing in particular). Our 2002 C240 is about 2 years old now. After about 5000 miles, the check-engine-light came on. The dealer replaced the engine computer the next day. We've had no problems since then. YMMV. ... New tires...
All, I recently decided it was time for new tires because the Eagle RSA tires from the factory were really beginning to make me crazy. Here is the story. I bought the car in Oct 2001 (it is a 2002 C-240 with 6-speed) and drove it all over the northeast for business on highways at high speeds. I assumed that Mercedes included tire rotation etc in the standard servicing... ... Read More...

2002 C230K Likes and Dislikes
cjs2002: We've had our C230 Coupe for 10 months and it is a blast to drive. Clearly the most fun car that my wife and I have ever owned. It has had some first year glitches which include factory and dealer reprogramming of ESP (Stability Control) and Brake Assist software, some brake shoe replacement, and a defective glove box, but otherwise the car has been great. ...
