Not even five thousand miles the fuel pump gives out. It's in the shop for a week. Then a month later the engine goes out completely. They say it was caused by metal shards in the fuel pump lines. All is good for the next six months then I open my garge door and the dam car is sitting in a pool of gas.

Spare a trannie?
Vehicle
2002 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C32 AMG 4dr Sedan (3.2L 6cyl S/C 5A)
Review
This rocket ship has been nothing but trouble. Turbo chirping, replace torque converter, replace trannie (68000), replace trannie computer, replace motor on driver's seat. This car has had factory service and was never abused, just driven. Would never own another Benz. Look forward to turning it in at lease end. It's in the shop now. Maybe they should just keep it !

Lack of reliability takes all the fun away

Stand behind the vehicle when there are clearly problems that are serious repair issues that are not acceptable in a car of this quality

I bought my C240 in Sept. 2002. I have had problems with the right side mirror not coming back up after I put the car in drive from reverse. Took it in many times to have the problem fixed, all under warranty. I have had BAS-ESP error messages appear, and had a grinding noises in the brakes on a couple of occasions when coming to a soft stop, where the ESP light came on. (There was no way the car lost traction) The wiring on the back blinker light needed to be fixed recently, which was costly for the repair. On a recent trip to CA last summer, the air conditioning decided to stop working. The AC would die, then start back up after about a minute.
Favorite Features
Comfortable ride, very safe. Was involved in a rear-end collision, and only had minor neck/back pain. Handles great in the snow! Love the center console that heats/cools food or drinks. EC/Rest button keeps car warm or cool while you are away shopping. Very nice on those cold winter days!
Suggested Improvements
In-dash CD player a must. Improve the cup holders. They are way too small.

Wolf in sheep's clothing

I ended up selecting a near-mint '02 C32 over an equally pristine '04 M3 SMG after driving both back-to- back...twice. The C32 is such an interesting car. It's interior space is very functional seating 4 easily and comfortably. It's styling. Just technical enough and different enough to set it apart. And finally, it's performance is eye opening if you pay attention - what I mean by that is the super-charged 3.2 is sooooo much smoother than the M powerplant in the M3, that unless you are truly aware of what's going on, you almost take it for granted. I would have given it a 10 in every category except it's features are almost overwhelming. The fuel economy scores low - that's my foot.
Favorite Features
Engine. Transmission. Brakes. Seating. Leather. Fit and finish. All top notch.
Suggested Improvements
More intuitive controls. Slight more growl in the exhaust note.

Don't Buy It.

5 years after purchasing it, my wife and I are very dissapointed. There's many reasons why. Electrical problems. Excesive front tire wear. Front shocks won't last more than 24 mos. Lights are getting burned out. Engine stalls when sitting in traffic (idle rpm). It's a shame that all that hi-tech can be so high maintenance. But, there's hope, our next car is going to be a Lexus. Take that Chrysler. gGod luck out there.

2002 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C230 Sports Coupe 2dr Hatchback (2.3L 4cyl S/C 6M)
Review
This car is very overrated, and not reliable. Exterior paint is substanderd for MB product. I find that the paint chips easily and faded prematurly. The engine is very noisy and unrefined. The supercharger needs more psi boost. The climate control system is confusing and doent work well after a few years. The rims are undersized and the lug nuts rusted after a year. The electrical system seems below realiablity for a MB. Maintenance is overly expensive. Most repairs occure after the warenty and are usually in the thousands. Resale value is very low. 12k as of today. A lot of buyers remorse on this purchase!
Favorite Features
I like the styling in the front end and the sunroof. Bose sound system works well.
Suggested Improvements
Engine needs a lot of refinement. Transmission does not work well with the engine, a lot of lag in the supercharger which shouldn't be due to the fact it is a supercharger. Overall poor performance and very expensive to maintain. Why do you think they stopped making it?

I have owned many high end cars and when the gas prices went nuts and I moved away from the beach I needed a car that satisfied my high end needs and quality was #1. This little car was not my choice, but I fell in love with it . It has 40/60 fold down rear seats so you can bring your ski's and haul larger items and it is a kick to drive. Parking is easy. And I rarely have to stop for fuel! Gotta love it ! The side doors cubbies stink as far as use goes and there are some wicked blind spots, but once you are aware, use extra caution. I put a ton of miles on it and the stereo is great. Sunroof opens to a huge ray of light with more safety than a convertible. What's not to love?
Favorite Features
Supercharged, huge sunroof. Handles like a more expensive model. Great on gas!

I really enjoy the ride and drive of my C240. I enjoy the looks and the feel of it. I have pride to own a car successful people own. I do not enjoy constantly going to the shop for very expensive repairs (three different ones in the past two months not counting others). This is not a reliable car. I keep thinking nothing else can go wrong. So many things are going wrong. I don't trust Mercedes anymore. Many times they have to always order parts from Germany. What an inconvenience!
Favorite Features
Highway driving, handling, solid build, low noise
Suggested Improvements
Poor reliability. Excessively expensive repairs and long wait for parts.

Excellent Car!

2002 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C230 Sports Coupe 2dr Hatchback (2.3L 4cyl S/C 6M)
Review
This is the first Mercedes I have been purchased. After having it almost a year, I have to say that the car is fantastic! I have had no problems at all as the odometer approaches 37,000 miles. It's a great car for anyone who wants a Benz but doesn't want to go broke paying for it.
Favorite Features
Panoramic sunroof, in-dash computer
Suggested Improvements
iPod input. I like the fact that the cup holder folds away out of sight, but it's a little tricky to use, especially when you're in a hurry.

Before I bought my C230 Kompressor, I looked at other entry luxury vehicles. I found this car was the best entry level luxury vehicle at it's price point. I would honestly rate the C230 Kompressor with high marks even if it didn't have the MB markings on the car. I didn't want to drop a mini-fortune (for me) on a CLK or E-series. So, I bought the C class and I have been very happy. I initally thought this would be the first and last Mercedes Benz I would purchase, but now I'm considering a CLK or E class for my future car. I've fallen in love with Mercedes. It's an entry level MB, but it has many more bells and whistles than others cars in it's price range.
Favorite Features
Great handling. High quality Bose stereo with 6 disc CD changer. I recommend the leather seats, panoramic sunroof, and power seat adjustment. There's a lot of cargo room with seats folded up or down. Automatic lights, rain sensors for windshiled wipers.
Suggested Improvements
None that I can think of.
