300CE
Vehicle
1991 Mercedes-Benz 300-Class 2 Dr 300CE Coupe
Review
It's a beautiful vehicle to look at and to drive. MBZ doesn't make 'em like this anymore, or so everyone says. This model year got the new DOHC 3.0L engine, so not much more quick but very fast. Mine is black on black, not my favorite colors, but distinctive. It had 94K on it; I sorted out a few things, put some new injectors into it and it runs great. Am looking for wagon equivalent now just to haul stuff around.
Favorite Features
Style, build, quality, materials, pillarless design, great leather
Suggested Improvements
As would be expected, certain aspects have been improved in succeeding models (fuel efficiency, e.g.) but design and build quality now lacking.

What a suprise
Vehicle
1991 Mercedes-Benz 300-Class 4 Dr 300E Sedan
Review
My dad bought this car originally for himself but then gave it to me as a college gift. He bougt it with 68K on it and now has 204,239 miles. The only work on it, other than normal maintenance, has been its first tune up at 189K, and a barring that was replaced holding the fan belt in. This car is more than worth the money and will be a car in our life for atleast another 100K. Mercedez has definately gained a new loyal consumer!
Favorite Features
In an age where cars don't last much past 100K, this car has an incredible ride, doesn't look its age, and is very reliable. In one word...RELIABLE!!!
Suggested Improvements
Its very difficult to suggest anything else except leg room in the back seats and the missing cd player coming standard. Newer models have fixed these minor inconveinences.

1991 Mercedes-Benz 300-Class 4 Dr 300D Turbodsl Sedan
Review
This vehicle is an excellent choice for anyone wanting a great car for little money. This car sold for 50K when new. It has 225K miles on it and still runs like new. It is tight with no rattles or squeeks found in domestic vehicles less than 2 years old. The fuel economy is 32 MPG HWY and 23 MPG city. This car looks like a 50K car and cost less than a used Honda.
Favorite Features
Fuel Economy... confort... smooth ride...central locking system.
Suggested Improvements
More power, better plastic on fog lamp covers,

The 300SE is definitely a family car!
Vehicle
1991 Mercedes-Benz 300-Class 4 Dr 300SE Sedan
Review
Purchased in 1996 off a trade-in from a 5 year lease. This was the best deal I ever made. With low mileage 32k miles and in great condition. It is now May 2003 and I have had the car for 7 years and still love it. I have driven from New Jersey to Miami 5 times with no problems. It has only needed the standard maintenance specified by the book. A great car!
Favorite Features
The roomy interior and the very large truck space. Also I love the impressive look of the front hood and soild construction of the car. I feel extremely safe with all the metal and safety features around me.
Suggested Improvements
The 300SE six cylinder engine is under powered for such a large/heavy car. On the highways at high speeds it is stable and handles great. But if you are stopped at a red light do not expect to win the drag race competition with the car next too you.

Never buy an early 4matic
Vehicle
1991 Mercedes-Benz 300-Class 4 Dr 300TE 4matic 4WD Wagon
Review
We bought this car with 147K on it. We had it checked out and were told it was in great shape. It came to us with a failed transfer case leaking a qt of hydraulic oil every 100 miles. The repair was nearly $2,000 and the part very difficult to come by. Now the front and rear engine seals are leaking and the engine has to come out. That will be another $2,000+. The water pump and alternator failed within days of each other. There have been numerous hard start problems. This is all within 4 months. The car is fun to drive but I don't trust it to go more than a month without needing some hideously expensive repair.

300TE 4matic
Vehicle
1991 Mercedes-Benz 300-Class 4 Dr 300TE 4matic 4WD Wagon
Review
This car was purchased with 23K miles in 97. I initially was shocked with some of the repairs i.e., motor mounts relaced again after 5K. Electrical flaw in the hatch $600. The radiator neck broke twice along with the fan and polybelt. Then at 76K the 4matic went out which was the biggest hit of $2300. Other than those items the car is a workhorse. I plan to keep it for another four years then sell it and buy a 2000CL500. I should be able to afford one by then.
Favorite Features
I use a wheelchair and the cargo space is great for carrying items. When you are sitting in the drivers seat it feels like any other sedan and not a soccer mom.
Suggested Improvements
It would be nice to have more power.

Workhorse
Vehicle
1991 Mercedes-Benz 300-Class 4 Dr 300TE Wagon
Review
This car looks great, holds everything, is extremely comfortable and sturdy, and is totally reliable. I bought it with 96,000 miles on it and expect years of trouble-free driving. It's fun to drive too -- peppy and with a sporty feel. I LOVE it and recommend it to everyone.
Favorite Features
The cargo space! Plus, Mercedes' paint jobs are great. People always are shocked that it's a '91 -- it looks new.
Suggested Improvements
I couldn't put a combination CD player/cassette tape deck in the dash, so I had a CD player installed. Otherwise, the car is perfect.

The Best Wagon Ever Made
Vehicle
1991 Mercedes-Benz 300-Class 4 Dr 300TE Wagon
Review
This is my 4th Mercedes-Benz product and it has been troble free. Never has it stayed over night in a shop. Maintance is more expensive than domestics but the quality of the job is far superior because of the dealerships' high levels of quality control. If the car needs new breaks the dealer does it right the first time, every time.
Favorite Features
Abiltiy to travel cost to cost without ever feeling tired, excellent ergonomics and orthopedically correct seats, and safety that rivals most new cars. You wont have that sea sick undulating feeling other "luxury" cars give you.
Suggested Improvements
Bring this model back. The newer ('97 to present) E class wagons are built for much less than these tried and true cars were and it shows in reliability stats.

Want Another Just Like It
Vehicle
1991 Mercedes-Benz 300-Class 4 Dr 300E 2.6 Sedan
Review
Bought this car in 95 from my sister in law. Loved everything about it. Gave it to my son for his move to Seattle (from Denver}. I now has 195,000 miles on it and looks and runs like brand new. What a paint job! I bought a 530i BMW to take it's place. No comparison. The Mercedes has it over the Beemer in all regards (reliability, paint, comfort, prestige). Beemer was the worst car I ever owned, Mercedes the best. Now shopping for the exact same year and model Mercedes for myself.
Favorite Features
Classic appearance, unbelievable paint quality, comfort in driving
Suggested Improvements
Smooth out the shifting in the auto transmission.
