SL55 Bose Switch to Harmon Kardan

Does anyone know if it is possible to switch from a Bose stereo system which came with my 2007 SL55 to a Harmon Kardan stereo system which can be found in SL65s? The HK systems in my wife's last 2 E320s were far superior in sound quality than the Bose in my SL. I find it hard to understand Mercedes thinking when they place HK units in E Series cars and ... Yeah, I had a busy summer and wandered in here to see if the Mercedes brigade was still pissing on the V's shoes. I thought of it when I saw the odo roll past 9,000 miles. Real world mileage? I live in L.A. I often have an entire tankful of fuel consumed at an average speed of 26 mph when I can't arrange driving time outside of the expanding "rush hour" ... Read More

I also think Mercedes is cannibalizing on the SL with its other models. It used to be that the SL was the only non-sedan in Mercedes lineup. Now you have the CL, CLS and SLK and CLK Cab all nicking away at the SL's market. It also used to be that the SL500 was the top dog in terms of Mercedes performance. As someone who bought a 2005 911S Cabriolet, my sense is that, as merc points out, the SL now has a lot more players in its space. And make no mistake, at 4,000+ lbs, it's no svelte sports car. There are a lot of other 2 seater and 2+2 GT cars that compete in the $100k territory. I would also put the new AM V8, the 650i and M6 on that ... Read More
