Modern look with classy lines. This
50th anniversary edition is true to
the 1954 300SL in looks but a little
light on performance. This car should
be faster. Also, light knocking on
acceleration is annoying. New 7 speed
transmission is very smooth. Handling
with 18 inch wheels is superb.
Steering is a bit heavy at slow speeds
and you can tell this is a heavy car.
But at highway speeds, it's a dream.
If you have the money, this is the
hardtop convertible to get.
The convertible hardtop is my favorite
feature. Second, Keyless Go. Third,
the panorama sunroof - what a
combination with the convertible top!
And last but not least is the styling
and stance - the most reminiscent
generation of the beloved 300SL.
The engine - 5.0 liters today should
crank out more horses and be more fuel
efficient. The brakes - great idea but
still needs tweaking to get to a
smooth stop. DVD-based nav system and
an in-dash 6 CD changer to keep up
with the Joneses. Merry Christmas!
