The 2008 model gas mileage spec is using 2008 method, which is entirely different from 2007 method. lj stated the two method would usually result in 20% difference, and Tag previously stated the difference is more dramatic for hybrides, to the tune of 30% or more. Correct! The "Maybach" was a Mercedes when it was originally shown at the 1997 Tokyo auto show. What happened next was a classic case of German see, German does. VW and BMW got Bentley and Rolls so Mercedes figured they'd bring a prestigous name from past back to life. I never understood why bringing Maybach back from the dead was necessary. It's one of those old brands like Pierce-Arrow or Deusenberg that means absolutely nothing to pretty much everyone in the 21st century. The M-B brand has enormous cachet. If they built a $300K Benz sedan and absolutely nailed the execution, people would buy. That's basically what the Maybachs are anyway.

It might be if the response is positive enough, but it will most certainly be toned down for production. The car looked as though it was initially to be a Maybach. If Mercedes does launch such a car atop of the S-Class, it doesn't bode well for the Maybach brand. Maybach is about to be killed by Bentley and Rolls with their rapid expansion in coupes and convertibles. M

Doc a "superior" luxury car doesn't come last place. At best it should have been 2nd or 3rd if were that convincing as a pure luxury car. What you're not seeing here is that the LS460L luxury wasn't superior enough to overcome its other flaws and on top of that it was priced at a very un-Lexus like 93K. Considering the mistake-free, NON-slabsided exterior, easy to use, but quite luxurious interior, ample power, with vise-free handling (didn't roll or squeal once under two rather intense drives), it is a remarkable improvement on a car that had few faults to start with. The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada did not award the MB S or Lexus LS as the prestige car for 2007. They chose the Audi S8 instead. My opinion is I'm pleased with the LS460L pricing, and the SWB should be near $65k, so it does indeed represent incredible value, especially against cars like 750i. The IS is full of particularly sharp styling cues, and is heavily starched, without becoming an Acura TL. The LS falls in between. So I'm not seeing it either, Merc.
