2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class SUV ML320 AWD 4dr SUV (3.2L 6cyl 5A)

Review

The car has been perfect for us in terms of design, comfort, features, durability, etc. Our gas mileage has been better than expected at 18.6 city and up to 23+ highway (I confess to having a heavy foot so it's often only 22). Brakeware has been super too; 45,000mi front and rears are still OK at 72,000mi. But, had to replace fuel pump, windshield washer checkvalve, "baby safe" seat sensor, and an instrument panel bulb. Nothing major, but even with good service (and free loaner cars) it's been a hassle some time.

Best Features

Audio system (Bose & MCS), flexible service computer (14,000mi between oil changes), SAFETY, size, load capacity, view of the road, comfort, power folding mirrors, handling, and service by the dealer

Worst Features

6yr 100,000 service/warranty, adjustable rear seat backs, more technical data/repair data on the web, and easier bulb replacement for the owner.

2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class SUV ML500 AWD 4dr SUV (5.0L 8cyl 5A)

Review

Has been in the shop for mulitple malfunctions all addressed by dealership on SEVERAL visits and Park Place's Road Side Repair service. Brake pads stink!! I am at 27,500 and told the brake pads have 10% left? Set number 3. 2nd set at 12,500 miles. Told by dealership it is due to AWD and common with their brake pads? This is my first Mercedes. Never had an issue with Japanese and US autos with AWD. To spend 50K+ on an auto and having to replace ONLY REAR pads for $311.00? That is crap!! Designers, take notice of the issues to keep Mercedes image and return buyer.

Best Features

Interior package.

Worst Features

UPGRADE THE BRAKE PADS!!Competitors of luxury model SUV's don't have this issue. Although it has quirks, I have enjoyed it. Questionable that I will purchase another Mercedes due to my experience of continued high maintenance required to remain flawless. Manufacturer PLEASE listen

Review

Our ML320 has been in the shop 20 different times. The last time was to replace the rings. It was burning 2 quarts of oil in under 2000 miles.

Worst Features

Give me the Mercedes Quality I was expecting.

Review

This is our first Mercedes, but not our first SUV (we have had Jeeps in the past). We stepped up for lots of reasons - Safety, performance and Status (this car is used in a sales environment). The ML500 is simply an amazing vehicle. It is comfortable and FAST. I would prefer a smoother ride with less jostling over the bumps in the road, but the trade-off for that kind of safety seems well worth it. The ML500 has had its share of little picky issues - namely a touchy fuel gauge and mirrors that do not adjust with the memory seats. Again, small potatos for that kind of peformance. It feels like a car that will last forever!

Best Features

ENGINE. SEATS. SAFETY. I cannot tell you how amazing that 5l engine responds to our inputs.

Worst Features

Better ride over the bumps. A larger storage area.
