2001 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML320 AWD 4dr SUV (3.2L 6cyl 5A)

Review

Issues during the first two years, I am
on my third fuel tank (service
department can not figure out why the
check engine light comes on, but
three's a charm??), driver window would
not go up (repaired twice because the
second time is always better), Gear
shift at times will not go out of Park,
CD Changer "not installed" , rear hatch
would not lock, sunroof cover cracked,
headlight washers would not pop up,
trip computer went out, etc... By the
way, at the dealer I use in Denver the
Service Advisors are paid on commission
based on the Labor portion of the
bill. Keep the customer coming back
in, "we hope your car falls apart" is
what Mercedes is telling us.

Best Features

The free loaner car they give me at the shop, I drive it more than my car.

Worst Features

Improve quality/reliability

Review

I have nothing but praise for this
vehicle as it is exciting to drive
(Sport), has served it's purpose
(Utility), and has been a good daily
commuter (Vehicle). I still get plenty
of looks with the Sport package and
the service received from the
Cincinnati store has been impeccable.
It must be said that any and all cars
will have minor issues arise
throughout its ownership and this
ML320 Sport has been no different -
although nothing has been horribly
wrong (worst was when the window stuck
in the down position during a winter
drive...Roadside Assistance took care
of it within 25 minutes).

Best Features

The navigation system has more than paid for itself several times over. I have also enjoyed the rain-sensing windshield wipers. One less thing to worry about in drizzle-to-down pour-to- drizzle episodes.

Worst Features

I'd like a DVD player as other SUVs w/in the class offer them (e.g. the dreaded minivan). A bigger gas tank would've been welcomed. The 2003 addressed this somewhat but not enough.

Review

Had it for 3 years and virtually no
problems (SRS relay replacement and 1
passenger seatbelt replacement). If
there has been anything else wrong it
must have been fixed during regular
maintenance (love the FSS!). Drove it
from TX to MD this summer, besides the
excellent drive I only spend $100 in
gas both ways! Involved in rear end
collision by 18 wheeler and NOTHING
happened to the passengers, the cabin
nor frame (loved the quick SOS
assistance). Repaired to perfection by
MB. No complaints. If I don't keep
this one I would certainly buy a new
one. Look forward for the new design.

Best Features

Everything in it.

Worst Features

The improvements I wanted are now standard on since the 2002 model. Good move MB.

Review

Be Warned of Low Quality & Rip Off
Labor prices. there are large number
of failing componenents (fuel pump,
steering components, sensors, brake
switches, ignition coils, etc) that
will let you stranded.. The labor is a
rip off for a low quality component
vehicle. $600.00 for changing a coil,
$280.00+ for oil and filter changes,
$1000.00+ for fuel pump changes.
MB customer service is a joke and
dealers are a nightmare. MB refuses
to perform TSB's unless you get
stranded.
Value went from $45,000 to a dealer
trade in value of $20,000 in 2001 to
the year 2003.

Best Features

Loved the exterior and general look. The engine is great.

Worst Features

Need to improve overall component quality. Need to reduce repair labor on defective MB models. Currently it is a major rip off.Even 2003 models have problems that were known on 1998 models. They were never fixed even though the sales people mention otherwise.

2001 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML55 AMG AWD 4dr SUV (5.4L 8cyl 5A)

Review

The power is awesome on the 55 but
that is where it stops for greatness.
The inside design is awful, no back-
seat AC, and the back-seat window
controllers are badly placed. The car
needs constant service for its brakes
which will squeak like an old Buick
shortly after coming off the
dealership lot, not to mention the
fuel costs will put a hole in your
wallet in no time. The driver's side
window is imfamous for not working,
and the alignment is off despite
repeated attempts to fix it.

Best Features

The power is nice and the exterior design is sleek and yet still sporty.

Worst Features

This car needs a lot of attention!! It needs a complete make-over for its interior design and reliability.
