2011 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class SUV GLK350 4MATIC 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl 7A)

Review

Excellent vehicle, all around. Sure, it has some weaknesses, but through and through this thing is an impeccably built tank. I've waited awhile to review this small SUV until living with it for some time (not quite 2 years now). I've previously owned Lexus, Saab, and several BMWs. The GLK demonstrates what Mercedes-Benz is all about, and this is (was) their 2nd least expensive model -- bodes well for the more expensive lines. I've had exactly one problem with the car in nearly 25,000 miles; a failed wheel bearing that the dealer had only ever seen twice before on the GLK. Let's not discuss how many times my SAAB saw the dealer in 25,000 miles, nor the BMW for that matter.

Best Features

Solidity. Cruise control that keeps you where you tell it (i.e. 50MPH means 50MPH -- even when going down hill, it breaks for you and doesn't let the car "run away" like most others do). Durability of the MB Tex seating, looks and feels just like leather but mine shows nary a sign of aging. Our 2011 Volvo XC60 with full leather seating shows wear in just 20,000 miles. Cornering lights are very useful. Xenon headlights are probably the best of any car I've ever driven. Turning radius is killer, I can flip around anywhere without needing to make a 3-point turn. Super easy to parallel park in the city. This will not be my last Mercedes-Benz, super impressed with the brand and their vehicles.

Worst Features

Nothing new here: gas mileage is fair (yet rectified in the 2013 and newer models). The 2015/2016 redesigned GLK needs to incorporate a little more legroom for rear seat passengers, as well as better egress/ingress. Bluetooth audio streaming should be available on this vehicle being that it's a 2011. MB needs to work with Apple to better integrate the iPhone. While it's not bad, it really isn't great either. A Honda Civic likely has better tech in this category.

Review

As the title says I love this crossover. We bought for my wife trading up from a Camry for the MB build quality, cache, edgy looks, vast options list, performance, & impeccable safety. I, on the other hand, love the sportiness, muscular lines, AMG styling & wheels and MB build. Another importance for us was that this crossover stands out in a crowd of blobbed aero shaped vehicle that really are just miniature wannabe of their bigger brethren. Class doesn't mean following the herd.

Best Features

Edgy Styling, Multimedia package including rear view camera, Pano Sunroof, dual zone HVAC, LED driving lights, AMG Styling, V6 Engine, Easy maintenance, MB Quality

Worst Features

More storage room, rear legroom, better MPG

Review

The navigation system we paid $1200 for (or more precisely, got robbed for)—it is a piece of junk, worst GPS we ever used and we have used quite a few different brands and models. This is simply the worse than the worst. The interface is extremely clumsy and slow to use, the features are limited, some address cannot be found, wrong routes, etc. The traffic update (TMC) is a joke since you have to manually check the text messages for each road on the list. At 8 time price of a touch screen Garmin 1450 with Life Time Map and Traffic update we got 1/8 of the features, functionalities, accuracy and quality.

Best Features

By all means this is not a bad car—it will go from point A to point B without a problem. However, given the price one would expect a little more besides the three pointed star. More sensible layout in space and some controls, leather upholstery, 1-2 inch wider in interior width and 2 more inches of leg room would actually make it much more likeable. But again, if that happens who would buy the more expensively priced ML? So, Mercedes probably won’t go that direction any time soon. Like one reviewer adequately put this car is for people “…may need to downsize your wallet but not your status.”

Worst Features

The car seems to target small framed female drivers. The parking brake pedal is puzzlingly small and close to the size only a smaller woman foot or a man wearing pointed shoes can accurately and comfortably step on it. The cup holders are right in front of central armrest Maybe a European size coffee cup would be okay but anything large than that, like a typical large size soda will get annoyingly in the way of your right forearm you try to put your hand on the shift knob and change gears. With raised door sills it is more difficult to get in and out—this is expected, however, the back passenger doors and seats are designed in such a way it ridiculously uncomfortable to get in and out.

Review

This car is just awsome! Much more fun to drive then station wagons and much more cool then mini vans. Perfect visibility while driving, fab handling and safety features. Perfectly sized family car for one or two children family. Design is just pure awsome Bauhause-ish. Just perfect marriage of form and function. Priced like smaller WV, yet provides all that Mercedes has to offer. Absolute head turner.

Best Features

Large windows with amazing visibility comparing to any other SUV in this class. Nav package, power seats, heated seats, dual climate control, windows remote operation from car key open close from outside without need to get inside the car to use the buttons.

Review

Leased a 2-wheel drive 2011 GLK-350 from Caliber Motors w/bad lease tuin April this year to replace the 2008 E350 due to too many unsafe blind spots. After driven 3 months of the GLK-350, here are my personal driving experience of this half-breed SUV:Pros:Not too high, not to low, the height is just about right, not too many blind spots as the 2008 E350, better visibility, quiet, good chairs, maneuverability okay Cons:A terrible 2-wheel drive GAS GUZZLER!Gas consumption worse than E350, worse than 1999 ML320.Soft brakes, hesitant accelerating, ugly side mirrors, rear blind spots, worst turning radius, stupid GPS navigator, knob control, small screen,a German JOKE! Bad heat penetrating moon roof

Best Features

Cup Holders, large container under elbow rest. Nice body-contoured driver/passenger chairs

Worst Features

Gas mileage, GPS navigator, Brakes, Accelerator, moon roof with darker, thicker blinds, more pitch-dark glass to block the sun to reduce the heat coming down from the roof top. Steering wheel with better finish workmanship, no more sharp thread behind the steering wheel.
