Acceleration commentsThe GLK responds extremely well to being held against the brakes prior to launching, cutting a full two-tenths from the 0-60 time. In Sport Drive, the upshifts are reasonably quick and also rather smooth and seamless. Engine note is evident, but it never sounds/feels thrashy.

Braking commentsExcellent brakes from start to finish: solid trustworthy pedal, moderate dive and very good fade resistance.
Handling ratingVery Good
Handling commentsSkid pad: No ESP intrusion (when shut off), just mild understeer on the limit of tire grip. I cannot detect 4Matic helping or hurting the performance here -- just a neutral attitude all the way around. Slalom: The GLK is remarkably "chuckable" in the slalom because ESP is rather lenient. When the system is reported to be off, it's still on, but its range is usefully expanded. The GLK has quick turn-in characteristics and yaw response to manage it. The 4Matic system must be helping here, especially on the exit where I could go WOT. From the way it goes through the cones, I can't believe it weighs 4,200 pounds.
