    I'd go with the CPO for the warranty and 24,000 fewer miles. I wouldn't touch a non CPO 2004 E and would probably prefer an E350 over an E500. There were some significant changes when Mercedes introduced the W211 model E in 2003 and some reliability problems were reported, particularly in the early years of that series (2003-2008).     I had a Mercedes 2004 E320S wagon with 100000 miles on it that caught on fire and burned.The car was maintained by the dealer from day one. The insurance adjuster said it was either a fuel injector or fuel line fire. Is this a problem with this model?

    IMy 2004 E500 AWD wagon came with orig equp Continentals that I had to replace at 16000 miles even after 2 dealer tire rotations.Besides relacing with Pirelli P Zero Nero tires a `bent wheel rim`was also replaced. Now at 23,000 miles and 2 more dealer rotations plus an alignment there`s excessive `cupping` again especially of front tires.     I own a 2004 e-320. Periodically, the engine does not respond when accelerating from a traffic light. I must depress the accelerator further and then the car lunges forward. I also experiece the same when turning a corner and the car does not respobd unless I depress the accelerator further which likewise causes the car to lunge forward. The dealer as well as Mercedes headquarters offers no help.

    Yes, I have had a similar problem. I own a 2004 E320, on 3 different occasion the car will not start. If I leave it for 5 or 6 day if will not start. Currently at the dealer now.     I had occasion to drive an '04 E500 w/4500 miles (the orig. buyer traded vehicle when tranny needed replacement, which was done), and the dealer is asking $53,450. Orig. sticker was 59k. Does this seem fair? I also verified that 2005 models will no longer include scheduled maintenance!! Do you think other manufacturers will follow suit? Amazing.
