Inherited this car while under warranty. This car has beautiful lines, a comfortable interior, and sensational performance. I love to drive it, and I will miss it in three days, when the new owner takes possession...sniffle, sniffle. However, having owned Nissans and Toyota's prior to this vehicle, I have to say, the reliability on this car...not so good. We have had $4,600 of repairs since 2001, mostly electrical, frequently involving window motors - and the car only has 70k. Further, we had to have rear car- seat tethering mounts installed - very expensive on something that should be standard. Electrical issues/ $ repairs outweighed road performance; we switched to an Infiniti.
Acceleration from 70-95mph. Handling, seamless ease of transmission - this car effortlessly dominates the road - smoothly cruises through corners and bends. If you like driving, you will love this vehicle. Seat adjustment system.
Electrical system. Rear car seat tethering mounts should be standard. I hate the 1 blade windshield wiper..grrrrr. The center console has too many similar knobs and buttons. You can only get the oil filter at the dealer.
Unbeleivable that this car can have
something go wrong every six months
like clock work. I drove my Lexus for
over 125000 miles with one repair (air)
In 84000 miles I have had to replace
both rear window motors, engine sensors
twice, air fan unit,and a oil seal--a
friend told me he carries oil in his
trunk. I won't make this mistake again.
Rides well, trunk is large and overall
fit and finish looks good.
The mechanical quality is just not
there. My mothers 98 Jag is even
better than this one.
1998 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan E320 4MATIC 4dr Sedan AWD
Love the car, hate the repairs. When
they hit they're expensive--I'm
looking at $2,272 repair for AC (in
Texas a must have) and a steering gear
replacement --the part alone is $1,597
labor only $191. Ouch. The car is a
fun and tight drive never been
stranded anywhere driving long
Minimal external noise - and just a
great drive. Moon roof is a nice
feature on a spring day.
This has been a fantastic car. I'm
considering a new E320 or E500, but I
can't bring myself to sell this one. It
had a few small problems with bulbs
blowing out. The local Benz dealership
fixed the problem after several
visits. Fortunatley, it was covered
under warranty. The ride is exceptional
as is everything else about the E320. I
think I'll stay with the E class because
it is easy to get around in the city yet
still has a big car feel.
The heated seats are a must! The moon
roof is a great addition as is the NOAA
weather channel and the ASC.
I will opt for the CD player and the
navigation system this time.
