I don't know how to start a new post. I didn't see a topic with Mercedes CLS500. I am contemplating purchasing a 2006 Mercedes CLS 500. The dealer says he's giving me a good deal, but the 2006 costs just as much as the 2007. Granted the 2006 only has 41 miles and has more features like navigation and electric trunk closer, but the 2007 has more horsepower and is newer ... Read More

Well I think they've already shaken off the build quality complaints with the newer models like the SLK, CLS and now the S-Class. ALl have much better interiors than before, and in the case of the CLS a real upgrade from the E-Class on which it is based. Though the E is hardly bad having improved greatly over the previous E. I'm guessing the SLK will pick up this month being ... Read More

  • May 2006 Sales

    Written by: merc1 on Jun 4, 2006 9:27:21 PM

Sales were up 21+ percent for May 2006 vs. May 2005. The S,E,R,SL,SLK and new GL were all responsible for this huge gain. Dealers must be giving away 06' E-Classes ahead of the new 07' model arriving at the end of June. The R-Class moved only 1400 or so units, still not up to what MB needs in order to meet their goal of 20K a year. The GL was the ... Read More

Well there a couple of Benz salespeople that chime in on the R-Class board from time to time that have hinted that a major re-shuffle of the R-Class' standard/optional equipment is on tap for the 2007 model year. This would be in repsonse to slow R-Class sales. Just a guess at this point. Yes I have read (Automobile Magazine) that a R320 CDI will show up here before the end of ... Read More

  • Mercedes-Benz Direct Injection V6 Premier

The recently introduced 3.5L V6 now has direct-injection. In short 292hp/270lb-bt of torque/26 MPG, 288hp for the U.S. market conversion. We should see this engine late this year for the facelifted 2007 E350 and as always the ML350,R350,CLK350, and SLK350 will all get this engine sooner or later, but probably sooner. For the 2007 model year on some of these would be my guess. Article M

The new GL-Class - GL450 is only model slated for the U.S. so far, can't see why we won't get the larger V8 GL500 (GL550 in the U.S.). On sale in late March/early April. However, Mercedes debuting the new GL with the new 4.6L 340hp V8 first which begs the question as to whether a ML450 will replace the ML500 or with they have both the ML450 and ML550 for ... It appears that for 2007 the E and CLS models will no longer use the SBC braking system. I didn't think Mercedes would spend the money to make such a running change, but apparently it is being incorporated with the facelift of the E-Class and since the CLS uses the same chassis it will also lose the electro-hydraulic brakes. Whoopie! Article Smart, but costly move. M

I assume that this also applies to the ML 500 as well ? Yep. All the "500" cars will become "550" cars for 2007. CLK, SL, CL, S, E, CLS, ML, R and the new "GL" will all get the new V8. There might be a "450" version of some of these running the smaller 4.6L V8 from the upcoming S450 (335hp), but that isn't clear. M

The 2.5L V6 has been out in Europe since spring long before the IS250. I'm glad they didn't call it a "250" at this point to avoid confusion. I was also reviewing the sales results. I see year to date sales are down by 6.2%. Better build quality seems to be in place now and that may help sales. Sedans are indeed the key to volume. Well at this point there are two Mercedes models that are pretty much definitely getting a facelift for 2007, the E-Class and SL. The E won't be anything dramatic, new V8, interior changes, equipment, lights, bumpers you know that type of stuff. The SL however is supposed to get a SLR/SLK type nose, and I agree that will ruin the car because unlike the SLR and SLK the SL wasn't designed ... Read More

I really don't see where Mercedes is doing anything different from any other luxury brand when it comes to SUV/Crossovers. BMW has 2, Lexus has 3 so why shouldn't Mercedes grab a piece of this market? Three different models, R-Class, M-Class and G-Class with varying purposes. Makes sense to me. The 2007 G-Class should however be a true Range Rover competitor, no doubt. M
