Have you also considered getting written offers from competitor companies like Mercedes-Benz and Audi. doing so makes them fight even harder for your money. They see you out doing research beyond just what they have it becomes very beneficial at the negotiating table

Earlier iterations of this board went thru the Lexus vs Mercedes War some time ago. Afterall a while it all got very tiring. So, at the risk of boring anyone, I'd like to give you my experience for what it is worth. I had a couple of free hours last night and I stopped in at a central MA Lexus dealership. The sales guys were remarkably well informed and seemingly had ... Read More

While the current E-Class doesn't quite make the grade for this forum, the NEXT generation might surprise all of us. Quick peak here: 2009 E-Class? Appreciate that! Looks pretty sweet to me! Hope it makes it there. Never been very impressed with Mercedes' sedans style. Looks like a step in the right direction. :)

While the current E-Class doesn't quite make the grade for this forum, the NEXT generation might surprise all of us. Quick peak here: 2009 E-Class? In the meantime, there is still the likelihood that merc's S-Class convertible will become a reality. This was previously posted, but here's a reminder: 2008 S-Class convertible As I recall, he'll be eating the brochure shortly after its release. merc - will that be with Ketchup, ... Read More

BTW, blkhemi did respond to my question about whether or not BlueTec was recently improved enough to eliminate the need for the urea additive (in the 5 most restrictive states, including California, where I reside). I dont know what Dr. Z speech Blkhemi is referring to but it appears the urea bladder is MB's 50 State solution. The EPA had issues with the bladder but now it appears that they have ... Read More

The British mag Car has some of the rumored details and pictures(certainly not official) of the upcoming 5 series. Based on the pictures below it appears BMW's future will lack Bangle's influence and be substituted with blandest of bland styling. This picture looks alot like the current e90 3 series: And the rear-end of this 5 series looks a lot like a Hyundai Sonata: The most interesting specs are the following: ... Read More

remember reading a discussion on the similarities between a Volvo S40 and the Mazda 3. They officially share the same platform; but have different engines, HVAC, suspensions, floorboards, insulation…practically everything is different. Apparently your above statement is correct based on Merc1's post below. Nothing has been officially decided or announced about a new 300 or a E-Class. Neither car is scheduled for a re-design until the 2009 model year. Also, the ... Read More

  • Tag, Merc, thoughts on the Maybach 51?

"According to Auto Motor und Sport, the new Maybach 51 (with the model number indicating its 5.1 meter length) will not grace the marketplace before the 2009-2010 timeframe. The 51 is said to be targeted at a price point north of $250,000 at current exchange rates, positioning it against the Bentley Continental Flying Spur and the upcoming small Rolls-Royce. The magazine reports that the mini Maybach will be based on the ... Read More

You're missing the point/connection here, which is hybrids. Of course a C-Class has nothing to do with an S-Class buyer's habbits. There is no connection between that scenario and the Prius and the LS600h. No one is saying (or at least I'm not) that the LS600h buyer is going to drop down to a Prius as a replacement for a 100K Lexus, we all know that. The point that Dewey and ... Read More

With increasing globalization, the heritage factor has assumed a new role and is no more the dominant factor. And yes the pace at which we are moving, 35 years is more than enough. I would say you can duplicate that success in 20 years. Which means in 2009, when Lexus celebrates its 20th, we will have a toast and to germans too, who have sustained such competition. Benz churned out million+ ... Read More

I too think there will be a S450, just not right now. I really don't think adding a 335hp S450 will actually help sales in the short term. The S450 is going to have to get more competitive under the hood or come in under or at best at the same price as the A8L and 750Li, it can't cost 77K like the old S430 for it to be competitive with ... Also depends on your winter weather, doesn't it? Definitely, but I have been caught driving there in a blizzard before so... Hey, M1, you mentioned that Jaguar (and others) are lined up to offer their versions of the CLS. What exactly are you referring to that Jaguar is doing in response to the CLS? I'm drawing a blank here. In the Feb issue of Automobile Magazine they're saying that the next ... Read More

Hi All, I've been reading an older issue of Jaguar World in which it talks about the furor of Jaguar owners after the release of downmarket cars such as the X-Type and X-Type Wagon..Buyer loyalty has fallen and Jaguar isn't expected to make a profit until 2009.. I've always maintained that Ford is making a huge mistake by taking Jaguar downmarket. It's better to focus on the high end. Why risk ... Read More

From Detroit News:   "On Thursday, DaimlerChrysler said its fourth-quarter net profit fell 63 percent to 526 million euros ($712 million) from 1.4 billion euros a year ago as Mercedes, once its star division, struggled with quality problems and the dollar's weakness against the euro, which hurt its results in the key U.S. market.   While once-troubled U.S. unit Chrysler more than doubled its fourth-quarter operating earnings to 386 million euros ...
