We used to own a 1993 300E 2.8 (the legendary W124) and really loves it. However the steering wheel was too heavy for my wife so we had to sell it and replaced with this 2012. The 2nd day of the ownership (new car with 15 miles) the SRS warning light went on for no reason. Dealer did a lot of diagnostic and couldn't find the problem. However, that problem later one just disappeared. I guess that again too many complicated electronics made the car less reliable. That said, after that incident, it's been about a year now and we didn't have any other trouble. The car drives great. Just wish that the build quality and reliability can be on par with the old school W124 though.. (sign)
The improved panel and the COMAND system, value (we got the very basic model for around US$30K), the exterior styling and LED fog light, the engine is quiet and has a interesting purring sound, the luxury version of the car has slightly higher clearance thatn the Sport version, which won't hit the parking lot bumpers
Really wish MB can continue improve the reliability and resale value (otherwise this will be our last MB, please try to learn from Lexus), the COMAND system has some minor issues such DST settings, etc. The rear seats are a bit too tight, wish the split-folding rear seats, backup camera, and driver's seat memory system can be standard (and NOT another $2500 for Premium 1 package). Use better tires such as Michelin Primacy MXV4 to maximize comfort (some customers are after ride quality with maximum comfort and NOT performance, we are those customers), improve the overall J.D. Power initial quality rating to be on par of Lexus...
